does it really matter? not sure if there's a difference but someone said "they look the same, same length and basic shape.. but the s14 uses a bigger output diameter, and, therefore, a different driveshaft. You also can't bolt up the s14 driveshaft to an s14 transmission on an s13 frame.. the s13 is too short."

is this true? got the parts for a manual swap but need a transmission so i just want to double check if this is true. thanks. and also how come most people say a manual ecu is not really needed for the swap and why is that?

IIRC, the S14 transmission has a crank position sensor mounted thru the bellhousing and the S13 does not. So you can use either transmission on an S13 motor, but you have to use an S14 transmission on an S14 motor.Dont know anything about the driveshafts...

http://www.ka24development.com check out the tech installs. there are a few wires that need to be changed but a auto ecu (99%sure) will work.

You do not have to install a S14 transmission on a S14 motor. A S13 transmission will work fine but will make the check engine light come on.

You can attach the bellhousing from a S14 onto a S13 gearbox, its direct bolt-on.

i have an S13 transmission on my S14, and since the S13 driveshaft is shorter the S13 transmission has a metal peice sticking out of it you will have to pull out in order for the S14 driveshaft to slip in. other than that it bolts right up.

Can you explain this more.. So the s13 is shorter but will work? So a s13 transmission/driveshaft will work on a s14. Only thing, cel will come on due to sensor on top of bellhousing? Anyone know if the speedo would be accurate as well..I know s14 auto/maual are diff. But will the s13 to s14 be different as well.

Of course you would want to swap the speed sensor from the old transmission to the new transmission.

You would then (since you are swapping stuff anyway) want to swap the bellhousing from the old transmission to the new transmission, its not really hard when you look at it...
