s13 transmission question and NO its not a auto convert to standard

I have a s13 1991 KA24DE and i need a new transmission becasue mine is going bad. well i was wondering if i got a newer year transmission like a 96' off a s14 would it be a direct bolt on as an s13 transmission would be? are the different becsaue the s14 transmission has like a hole on the top?(i read this from another post that asked the difference)
