So I'm about to do an auto to manual swap and I've started the parts hunt. Pretty much I figure that if I can't find a manual S13, I could get every part from a manual S14. I've read however that the ECU and driveshaft are not interchangeable. I don't think the ECU will be a problem, and I've found a site that sells driveshafts. They sell them in Alluminum or Steel (steel is cheaper) as well as with ABS or without. To be honest I know nothing about driveshafts so my questions are... Which driveshaft should i get? Is the alluminum more expensive because it is lighter? Does that mean that it's weaker? If I get the driveshaft with ABS, will I now have ABS?

much appreciation to anyone that can clear all this up for me.

P.S. This thread is named "M/T Compatibility" instead of just "Driveshaft questions" because I'd like to know more about this in general.

Reputable companies generally make driveshafts that are good for 500+ft/lbs of torque. People buy aluminum driveshafts for their light weight properties. They allow you to rev faster and make more power at the wheels. abs and non abs cars have different length driveshafts. Buy abs if you have abs, non abs shaft if you don't.

Abs driveshaft will not give you abs. Not sure why you thought this.

i have a 89 5spd transmission in my 93. It is running off of an auto ecu. No problems with interchangability.

i am not sure however with abs driveshaft differences tho, but mine works great. Just make sure you do the wiring correct, ie jump the neutral saftey switch.

i wrote a write up a while back. has some good info. Also look in the vert section about the auto to 5spd swap. there was a link with real helpful info on doing it.

question shouldn't you really rewire your saftey switch to be the button on the clutch that way you can start the car w/o the clutch in? or am i thinking of something completely different?
