Hey everyone,

I posted a thread a little while ago asking if anyone had things to look for when looking at buying an S13, and one thing that came up was to see if the timing chain had been replaced recently.

My question is, at how many miles should a person start expecting to change the timing chain? I understand it's just one of those necessary replacements-- one you should sorta expect to do on a s13. Is this true also?

Finally, I've heard people say $600 is about how much it costs to change the chain. That's what Edmunds.com says also (they actually say $650). Anyone else have info on prices for this fix?

Fiz, I think 6-650 is about right for the average fix. Generally, the mileage is about 100k. There isn't anything hard and fast about this, but conventional 240 wisdom says about 100k.

just change it yourself, put back anything you took off the way it was, and you're good! if you need anyhelp, just come here! lolz

but truefully it ain't that easy, cause i did one on a honda accord. especially honda is known to be easy to work on.

Honestly, in the SOHC, it shouldnt be that hard. There is a write up on 240sx.org about it, and in the FSM, get someone to copy it and send it to you. Just following directions is the majority of it. Its a long process though. But a $85 timing set is sure worth the time :)

I recently purchased a complete timing chain kit for my KA24DE. It cost 260.00 and 10.00 for the gasket set. Everything I needed. I bought it at autozone. the part number was 76051 by dynagear. thats if you do it yourself. The only reason I changed mine was one of the tensioners was messed up and while I had it taken apart I should do the whole thing. The engine had 173K. nick

eh I cant really see it taking TWELVE hours... but hey whatever. I'm stingy as hell. 12 hours is WELL worth 400 bucks saved to me.
