Hey peeps, I'm looking to swap an RB25 into my 240. My power goals are in the neighborhood of 550whp; I realize that my other bolt-ons will play a part in that number, but the turbo will be the key element of the equation. I was considering the Apex-i RX-6 because I've read a few articles that speak well of them and it seems as though this turbo will be up to the job. I like the design of the IHI turbos and I know that Apex and Power Ent. are the most well known distributors. I've been researching these turbos and it seems that of all the scenarios I've encountered, the output levels have only been in the range of 350-450whp. I know that it depends on what boost levels you run and all that stuff, but I guess I'm just wanting to do some heads up comparisons based on some actual testimonies from folks whom are putting out these kind of numbers to see what turbos are being used. Sorry for the long post, but thanks in advance for your insight.

do you understand how much power 550whp is in a 240sx?

anything above 400 is pointless because you wont be able to hold traction.

are you financially able to support a 550whp build and car? you cant just build an engine and call it done, rest of the car has to be able to support it.

im not trying to be a killjoy, but alot of people dont realize how unrealistic that is.

I agree with kamin, but who knows you could be a millionare. Heres a turbo to look at. Remember its not just RB25+Big turbo = HP, your gonna have to spend a butt load of money on supporting mods. Clutch, fuel and ecu upgrades just to start on the gigantic list of things you'll need for a RELIABLE 550whp RB.

kamin is right!

at first, i wanted my rb25 to be a 450whp setup, then I realized that getting that high in hp is pointless, unless if you're trying to build some kind of 9 second car. Now don't get me wrong, 550whp would be badass, but do you REALLY need that kind of power? Anyways, good luck figuring out what exactly you're going to do, but my turbo of choice for the RB25 has always been and will always be the GT35R.

Yeah I know it's a HUGE financial investment, albeit I could be a little naive about the extent of actual chassis prep thats involved to handle that amount of power. I know that all of the suspension components practically need to be race components--I'll be looking to SPL for those things. Additionally I'll need a high spring rate in the rear to support the load of inertia. Brakes--as large as possible (Endless is my preference) and I'm converting to the 17/16 master cylinder. Perhaps some chassis bracing along the lines of strut tower bars, I'd like to do a little bit of everything(drag, drift, road coarse,DD) with my car since I am going to have so much invested. I don't know anyone w/ a car pushing out more than 350whp so I'm not disposed to the driving/riding experience in order to have a seat-of-the-pants feel for 500+hp...sorry

you dont need any more than 350whp if you plan on tracking the car (road course)

im gonna come right out and say it.

I may have road coarse days on a limited basis, there are only a couple here in SC..each being at least an 1.5hrs from where I live. There are more accessible drag strips than anything. As aforementioned, I realize that this is gonna be a lot of work and I also know that I'll basically have to rebuild the motor with all the forged and lightweight components to have RELIABLE power. I believe my estimated cost for my entire build-up will be in the neighborhood of $30K. Some people may not be able to justify spending that much on a car that only cost me $1300 to buy, but to each their own. I'm currently working on a power point presentation with each phase of the process so that I can have a map/checklist.

I've been doing some research and simulated compressor mapping. I've been using some of the compressor maps that are available to me. So far I've looked @ the T04 v-1, IHI RF55, and GT35-40. I'm plotting points starting @3500rpm-6500rpm w/ boost pressures 10,15,20 psi. I know that I'll need to run high boost for my power goals, but @ the same time I still want some low end response which is why I started calculations @ 3500rpm. The gt35 seems to be a good candidate for the direction I'm going, but I want to have a few more options.

400whp = breaking traction on the highway at 80mph...not fun.ive also had the car change lanes for me while driving on that kind of power...its more scary than fun but if you like that then go for it.

I'm right in the middle of swapping out the T25. I got a peak performance top mount, and GT4088, 640cc injectors, synapse engineering BOV, and Tial 44mm wastegate. I'll be putting it all on this weekend, and having a new hot side pipe to the intercooler made along with the new exhaust. So might actually take until next week to get it all done, and tune the PFC. I'll post some numbers upon completion.

who makes the peak performance top mount manifold? is it a rebadged ssac or custom?

Looking forward to some updates to that along w/ some pics of the setup. PE has a pretty good breakdown of the different configurations of the rx6R and it boasts the kind of gains I'm wanting.

I drive very moderately under most circumstances based on the amount of $$$ I spent on traffic violations/court fees/bail/etc in my previous life. I've had fantasies of a rolling burn out while traveling 60mph after down-shifting to third gear....but
