Does anyone know where I can find information on the suspension geometry of an s13? I'm looking into changing wheels and lowering with coilovers and I want to make sure I don't loose too much of the cars stock driveability.

Thanks for any help!

First off, welcome to NICO.

We have a Wheels/Suspension forum that has many answers to the questions you have. You can look to the right to find it.

What the previous guy was trying to tell you was the Factory Service Manual. It is pretty much a bible for all things on our cars, but wont tell you a thing about changing out parts for the aftermarket replacements.

Definately check out the suspension forum FAQ before you post, your answers might be in there.

But, the main problem when aggresively lowering an s13 is camber. You are going to need Pillowball mounts up front, and Rear Upper Control arms out back. These two pieces will allow adjustment of the extreme negative camber that occurs when lowering your car. If you want to get into high tech suspension geometry, heres a site that sells every multi link piece known to man. There is also a diagram of your suspension.

If your looking for the effects of ride height and rim width/offset on the movement of your suspension it isn't something you will read in a section of the FSM and learn over the next week, its a very huge subject that lenghty books are dedicated to.

But if you just stay reasonable with the changes your making you should be fine.by reasonable I mean ~1.5 inch drop alot of people here go further then that, and don't notice huge problems but you defiantly start seeing some bump steer at that point...8/6 is about the max of what I would recommend for street driving, they tend to get bumpy enough to start loosing traction of poorly paved roads at this point.don't get huge wheels if you don't need to look cool. Smaller wheels = cheaper tires. the tires I have now were $100 for 205/55/15 but closer to $150 for 225/35?/17keeping the offset as close to stock will do your best to preserver the stock scrub radius and wheel bearing loads (though stock is not always best for performance or driving feel)

But basically just read on here...most of the real common stuff you see isn't making huge enough changes to be noticed by anyone other then some one who has a specific setup in mind(professional driver) You should be ok as long as you don't try to do something totally extreme....
