Guys,

My S13 is making me sad. It oversteers so dramatically that I'm really wishing I had my 510 again. I realize that a lot of it has to do with the piss poor weight distribution. What can I do to make the car more neutral?

Please see the list of suspension mods in my signature for my current setup. I realize that there will not be an easy or inexpensive fix at this point. I figure that I'm going to need all sorts of adjustable control arms and what not to dial in somewhat radical toe and camber settings.

What I'm looking for is feedback from people who have raced these cars, and dealt with the problems they have at the limit. Thanks!

ummm i'm guessing you don't drift then. but I'd just like to know why you say it has"piss poor weight distribution". I thought we had a 52\48.

Not when I can avoid it... ;)

I haven't had the car weighed. I'm just going by my driving experiences, which are getting less and less pleasant at the limit these days. :help

Try adjusting your rear sway bar up a notch.

Check tire pressures as well, I normally run 34 - 36 PSI in my tires cold.

Its funny how so many people run 200+ whp (boosted KA or SR) and never really do worthwhile wheel/tire upgrades.

You should really consider getting some nice wheels with some good quality rubber on them and see how that improves things. My s13 (250whp SR) will oversteer with sheer power anytime you want it to so you hav eto be pretty careful at the limit with throttle control. With better wheels and tires that whole concept changes. My brother runs some 7" wide meshies on there with 195/50/15's!!!! I run 245/40/17 falkens and it makes a enourmous difference.

On top of that, maybe consider playing around with camber and driving tactics (not saying you dont kow how to drive)...

He said he has an OVERsteer problem. Stiffening the rear body roll will only worsen it. Although it is wierd that you have an OVERsteer problem and not an UNDERsteer problem.

The weight distribution is in the advantage of understeer.

I would guess that your oversteer problem is just a result of too much power, not how your suspension is setup. Maybe try laying off the throttle in the turns? A tire can only do 100% of one thing at a time. If all the traction your tire can deliver is being used for the turn, you can't give it any throttle, or you'll be over 100% and you'll lose traction. If 80% your tire's traction is being used for the turn, you can only give it 20% more with the throttle or you will oversteer.

I think you need some better tires, maybe even some wider rims, but you might be able to find some good rubber for the stock alloys.

The back end starts coming around much sooner than I want it to. That's oversteer, right?

When I'm driving through a corner, if I get into a situation where I have to turn the wheel any more, I know that the backend will come around. Is that oversteer, or understeer?

Yup, that's oversteer.

Are you hard on the gas when this happens?

Yup, and it's pretty scary. I think I'm going to start with some new tires. These ES-100s are just a liability given the way that I drive.

Then the oversteer is very likely not your suspension's "fault", rather a combination between your tires and your driving style. Never go cheap on tires, I always say.

Jennifer Lopez in the passenger seat would even up the weight distribution right quick...

Buy some Falken Azenis, same price as es-100s but more grip. And make use the adjustability of the whiteline swaybars. Stiffen the front and/or soften the rear.

Badass...AC Cobra pedals? Nice and close together, just like they should be. It warms the heart.
