I have a s13 hatch with a stock dual cam ka. The car does not start, it cranks and cranks. I go to check spark it does not have spark. I checked the ignition coil, the transistor, resistor, and the circuits for the ignition system. They all check good. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor prior to this problem. Not knowing how to continue I checked the ecu for codes and I got a code 11 for crankshaft position sensor. I checked the circuit for the crankshaft position sensor and it checks out good. I tried to test the crankshaft position sensor( or the distributor since the sensor is in the distributor). It looks to be good. I am a little unsure of this since I do not think I performed the test correctly(the FSM is confusing in describing procedure). My question is can a bad crankshaft position sensor cause a no start? I want to know this before I remove the timing cover to check timing.

A cps is what tells your ecu to trigger the injectors and coil so yes it will definitely cause a no start. I've had a bad dizzy and still had spark but wouldn't start.

I have been having a similar issue in my '91, same engine setup. After trying several different ideas, I decided to pump the gas pedal while cranking. I pumped four or five times, followed by holding the pedal down all the way. After about 15 or 20 seconds of cranking with the gas pedal held down, the engine turned over. It did not want to idle on its own right away, but after a minute the idle normalized. We still have no clue what's causing the issue I'm having, but that's how I started her.

After repeated tests, I decided to try a driving run, about 10 miles down the road she began to massively overheat very rapidly. I pulled over and allowed her to cool and then drove home, we've tentatively identified the overheating as a blockage (possibly a rodent nest) in my exhaust pipes (or a bad Cat).

I know this doesn't help you find the problem and fix it, but... I thought I should share my issue. We THINK that the issue with mine might be a partly bad dizzy.
