The motor is about to go in and I remembered that HICAS may bring up a problem. After searching, I've come up that all I need to have HICAS to work is to get a SR HICAS power steering pump. Can someone help me confirm this and anything else that I have left out.

Will the wiring help from Heavy Throttle be changed in anyway since I want to keep HICAS? Please let me know what those differences are if any.

Thanks all...

Yes, you'll need a HICAS p/s pump from an SR.

Just ditch the HICAS though. :p

how can I tell the difference between a normal ps pump with a hicas ps pump? I have a front clip but i'm not sure if it was HICAS equipped.

Thd hicus pump has two outlets on the top of it. Oh and it uses a larger 3/4" line (vs. 1/2" for the non-hicus) that runs to the resovior.

The resovior is also like 2x the size. :)

after looking at the classifieds, i found out that theres a hicas driveshaft. i have another post on here about driveshafts but that had nothing to do with HICAS. do i need to get the HICAS driveshaft or will any driveshaft work? as stated in the thread, i found a 89-90 driveshaft...after searching, i find that it will work but will be short. if i decide to get this, will this work for HICAS???

EDIT:

Something just occured to me, I have a KA24DE. If a normal swap can use the ka24de power steering how come i can't just use the ka24de hicas power steering?

I have not ever heard that the driveshaft length is affected by HICAS. I know the ABS cars need a slightly shorter shaft than non-ABS cars.

No...HICAS doesn't have anything to do with the VLSD, other than it sits on top of the pumpkin. It's powered by hydraulic lines from the pump, driveshaft does not affect it in any way/shape/form.

To the extent of my knowledge, to keep the HICAS with the SR, you'll need the pump (obviously) the correct belt, and all the HICAS wiring will have to be extended like everything else.

If it were up to me, I'd probably pass on it, more trouble to keep it than it's worth.

I really don't think there is that much (if any) more wiring. Maybe just an extra pressure switch (wow, 2 more wires).

There is no difference in the driveshaft for VLSD and non-VLSD cars. Now you need to ensure if your car has ABS or not and use the correct driveshaft, BUT, just use the one that's in your car now. It is almost identical to the SR one.

I would use the driveshaft in my car, but I have an automatic. I've read that I need a manual driveshaft....or do i?

Another thing,

ANYONE HAVE A SR HICAS Powersteering pump for sale or to trade with a non HICAS SR PS pump? you can e-mail me or reply to this thread.

THanks for all the info guys.

Ahh, the whole auto thing.

I have a non-ABS driveshaft from my sr, but I think I am going to keep it. I also had a hicas pump, but I lost the damn veins that go to the rear half so sorry i'm no help.

Do you need the manual transmission cross member or are you getting a clip?

Does your car have ABS? If it is an S13 it will be on the passenger side up next to the firewall. Well the pump/modulator will at least.

Specs are as follows:

S13, auto, HICAS, have the clip(non hicas), non-abs

i really want to keep HICAS...if i can't find a HICAS PS pump can i use the regular PS pump for now?

you can call heavy throttle or who you got the motor from, but I know heavy throttle will trade you. They most always have customers in need of a non-hicas for a hicas.

HT could get you one. FYI, the non hicas ps is worth more (demand).

I used my stock battery until I got a FMIC and then you will need a slimline or relocation kit.

HT responded, and they're all out of PS pumps. can i temporarily use a normal PS pump? another thing about drive shafts, the 89-90 driveshaft being shorter, what is the downside of this?

I am pretty sure I have a hicas pump, but I need a non hicas.

I'd definitely be willing to trade you. Let me know, and I can PM you a picture of my pump.
