Ok first off before all the yelling happens, I understand the s13 blacktop sr20det is a jdm engine and they have no compatibility with obd2 at all. I have searched these forums (you will say i havent but i have a little), but I want to know if anyone has worked with any kind of work around for passing emissions testing (not to california regulations, just federal) with these engines.
Yes I'm sure its illegal, but I'm sure someone has attempted and succeeded or failed.
When I say work around, I dont mean registering it somewhere else that doesnt require testing, but I mean emulators and building electronics to simulate signals. I've seen a couple online that look feasible and are reasonably priced, but I wanted to know if anyone has used one before or have been contacted by the big brother in suits after using one.
I just bought this 1997 Nissan 240sx LE with a complete sr20det blacktop (non vvl) setup and I'm relatively sure I was assured it would pass emissions even though it was jdm engine and electronics. I went in to get it tested and the OBD2 port is there but not communicating with the E5 ecu and their testing computer. It reads a voltage to it but no communications.
I'm a mechanical and computer engineer so someone with technical background would be appreciated.
Either PM me or add to the thread.
