ok i got my s13 sr20det into my s14, and put the driveshaft on and and everything bolted up/sliided in...but where the shaft slides in, it goes all the way in and then theres about an inch still sticking out of the shaft

now i've heard various things such as:i drive it year round like this with no problemsand its because the s14 drive shaft is bigger

i just want your thoughts on this, and if its safe to have that shaft exposed to rain, dirt, pebbles..ect, how tight is the shaft into the transmission is it air tight or can s*** get in there? [I can't see now that its on the car ]

the last thing i want is a little pebble getting there and f***ing up my transmission

another tid bit, sr transmission came with a dustboot, ka's dont come with a dustboot...and in the guide it tells you to knock off the dust boot....but now i kind of wish i still had it for protection...i thought the shaft was going to slide all the way in

I have about a 1 to 1 & 1/2 inch gap. It was like that with my stock DS and my shaftmasters aluminum DS. I replace my trans rear seal about every year because I worried about the same thing. Every thing has been good for about 2 & 1/2 years.

@supreamyou have left your rear main seal for 2 years with no problems? or do you still change it every year?

do you think it will be fine without changing the seal?

@deviant_s14, all the wires should be the same as most of the common wiring guides, however there is a slight difference, and i have posted some information here, that should make your wiring time a bit easier:two common wiring guides for s13, almost the same:

and here is the only different i stumbled upon that gave us a set back, was the f3 plug, and finding a pinout was brutal...here is the pinout and some info:

hopefully this helps!

I change it every year. I get some gear oil seepage around the shifter. But it's always upto level.

If you want to use the dust boot you just have to trim enough off of the boot itself so it doesn't interfere with the shafts movement, I did it on my SR transmission.

The DriveShaft Shop built my one piece and the drive shaft sticks out about an inch. When i asked them why that was they said it was designed to take some of the flex off the one piece design since the 2 piece design takes the flex-stress where the two shafts meet. You should be ok with about an inch sticking out unless you feel some vibration or any rattling. Hope that helped some.
