I have a 96 240 with an S13 redtop. It has been sitting for several months without running, and now when it runs, it won't rev past 3k, and when it gets there it jumps between 2600 and 3000 rpm. Could this be caused by the old gas that is in it? Or what other possibilities and how to fix them. Thanks.

It's in limp mode. Check your MAF

Thanks, If I check the wiring and everything and its good, would my MAF need to be replaced?

I would call it the likely culprit. You can get a SOHC KA MAF to replace it

Its probley your wiring. The MAF wire is shielded. When you extend the wiring, one or more of the metal shielding strands can get stuck in your solder, or just touch the MAF wire and short. I would check that first.

Think I found the MAF problem... the solder on one of the wires broke, fixed that and figured out that I have a new problem. When I went to start the car, it wouldnt turn over. I smelled gas, so I figure its getting fuel, but maybe no spark?

It won't turn over, or it won't crank to idle?

If its not turning over - check battery - It HAS been sitting up, and could lose voltage. . .

If its not staying cranked, check through all the usual, plugs, coil packs, injectors, shoot if its been up for a while you might have a little gunk built up in the throttle body. . .or worse?

Good luck

Motor turns over, but wont stay cranked. It started fine 2 days before this started happening, but I had the MAF problem then, came back two days later to fix the MAF wiring and car wont start... Ill check everything you mentioned and Ill update later. Thanks.

you probably flooded it out if you're smelling gas. pull the plugs and let them dry out, or if you have a good torch, you can use that to clean the electrodes

Appreciate all your help. Appears I flooded out the engine... pulled plugs let them dry out good, attempted to get some of the carbon off. Put plugs back in, Fired right up and is running great. Now to my coolant leak:/
