ok so I have an s13 redtop sr and tonight when I was driving I put 100 octane race gas in went driving for a while kinda pushing it hard for a while then went home let it cool down for 30 min came back out my friend tried to start the car and when he was giving it gas to start the car he feathered the throttle and it didnt start so he tried again and he made the starter grind and car still didnt start so I went over and started the car and drove away but then the motor started making a knocking noise and car wanted to die when I put it in neutral sometimes it would hold idle and then after driving 3 blocks away while I was in 4th gear coasting around 3k rpms the car started slowing down badly and when I went to put it in neutral it died immediatly no hesitation then I started it after letting it cool down and it held idle but when I started driving while I was driving holding the gas the car felt like it was trying to die does anyone know why any help would be appreciated.

I have to give the car gas to get it to start I always have. The motor has a tuned ecu also with a full 3" exhaust ive put the same race gas in my car before and everything was fine smoke was coming out of the head but that is because I have a breather on my valve cover. ive checked for boost leaks and exhaust leaks or oil leaks but nothing is wrong it will try to die when I apply more and more boost to the motor to.

Aren't you only supposed to run 100 octane if you have your motor tuned for it? I personally don't know, but have you looked into it before? Maybe this is the consequence. Hope it isn't for your sake. GL

Putting in 100 octance won't hurt your motor.

I had a friend who recently had a situation such as yours but in a KA and his problem was the starter, even though it was brand new, something went wrong with it and it started making a rattling noise.

Try taking out your starter and making sure it works, of if you can swap in a working one from a friend or something.

The car dying would have nothing to do with the starter. The starter only spins the motor over.

OP, I would start with the basics. Check grounds, check plugs, you have already checked for boost leaks but does the car hold a decent vacuum at idle?

I will have to check out the starter for the noise but my car will hold idle while I'm in neautral but when I start driving it the car will die decellerate on me if I don't hold the gas down and if I put it in neutral while that's happening the car will die right after I push in the clutch with no hesitation.

Sounds like the blow off valve is sticking.

I know what it does, however in my friends situation, his starter was brand new and for some reason the gear iirc would not engage fully, or apparently got stuck part way and started making noises like those described by the OP.

I had a similar problem recently with my S14 SR and it turned out that the MAF went bad. One moment it was working just fine, next it was running like sh*t. I didn't have the money to replace it with a new S14 SR MAF so we put a KA MAF on with a potentiometer and it's running fine now. Just a thought...
