S13 SR In-line air restrictor

I was curious if you need to use this air restrictor when installing a catch can. I will order a new one if it is necessary, i am not exactly sure what the purpose of it is unless it is keeping the intake from creating too much vacuum?

Hopefully someone here knows what it does.

I wondered this also. I heard there purpose was to supress any kind of flame that might come through but I thougth that was kind of odd.

ive done a lot of reading about ways to set this crap up, never eraly came across a restrictor in their.
itd be nice to know if it serves a usefull purpose.

Seeing as how it is in the hose that goes from the valve cover to the sucky side of the turbo, it is probably to help cut down on the amount of oil that gets sucked out of the valve cover when the turbo is spooled up and really sucking some air. Especially at high rpm when there is a lot of oil vapor floating around the engine.
