I was wondering what modifications had to be made to stick a redtop (or blacktop) S13 into a 96...base model? Is there much more of a benefit to sticking an S14 SR in it? I'm anal and wanted engine to match the car, but an S13 clip/setup is a good amount cheaper, making it a possibility to have it done by next summer.

Kind of related second question...Someone once told me that in Japan car makers never switched to OBDII, is this true, and would putting an S13 motor into my OBDII car be too much trouble?? Any info would be appreciated...

OBDII doesnt matter ... you arent keeping any of the KA emissions parts and/or electronics. Either way I am also doing the redtop ---> S14 LE ... Ill let you know how it goes as I will do it before next summer.

Yeah, I'm an a**, after I posted I'm like "Geez, everything has to get re-wired anyway...

So which would be better as far as performance is concerned? S13 or S14, I believe I read somewhere that the redtop has more of a high volume intake manifold, making more power out of mods than an s14...

i don't know about the manifold, but the S13 redtop and blacktop has higher-angled intake port designs, which is better flowing. The S14/S15 engines have a low-angle port design.

it depends on the mods, keeping the S13 engine stock, you won't...the S14/S15 would because of the better turbo. Coming down to heavier mods (different turbo), yes the S13 will out do the S14/S15 engines.

i have an s13 in my 95...i did the JWT reprogrammed ECU. it takes ur ka24 ecu and reprograms it so u may use your factory wiring harness. you would need to get a RWD SR20DE Distributor with plug wires. it takes away the direct fire...but its all good.

What's all good would be completely removing the need of a MAF and getting a programmable computer. Why wouldn't you?
