hey all,
i know its been covered on here, but i just want to make sure i have my info right.
I'm thinking about swapping the dohc cluster into my 240sx that was sohc before i put a rb motor in.
to do this do i need just the harness that plugs into the cluster and then right there behind the cluster or would i need the whole thing that runs to where the ecu plugs into it? i may be looking at it wrong but if you know what I'm talking about let me know what i need. i messed up my cluster and think swapping the dohc cluster in would be better theres easier to come across and cheaper to have the tach calibrated.
thanks

Moved to 240sx tech, please post technical questions in the 240sx technical subforum in the future.

Anyway, on to your question. All you need is the little harness that plugs into the cluster and then into the interior harness behind the dashboard. However, the DOHC and SOHC RPM gauges are calibrated differently. So you'll have to open up both clusters and swap the "guts" of your SOHC RPM gauge into the DOHC cluster.

However, I'm not sure how the RB swap will effect things as far as RPM readings go. Hopefully someone else will chime in!

The dohc tach and sohc tach work completely different. The sohc works on a pulse single just like an autometer tach. the dohc tach works on a voltage scale. Not ” calibrated” differently, just different all together which is why the tach no longer works when switching to a dohc 4 cylinder. Since you are not planning on switching to a 4 cylinder, this idea won't work for you anyways. You will need a tach from a j30 (which is 6 cylinder like the rb) and swap the guts over to your cluster. This is not a direct swap, so make sure you know how the gauge is powered and how the pcb works. Check out thr link in my signature.

Oh, and no harnesses are needed to run the dohc cluster. Its plug and go.
