I got a s13, recently I had my CAT changed so a buddy of mine told me I should run it hard to break it in, I've never ran my car hard before(well atleast not this hard, it has 256k on it) Ever since then, I felt a loss of power and it started to almost skip, it's kinda hard to explain. When I switch gears(sometimes it happens right off the bat on 1st gear) and put in the gas it starts almost like jumping, it looses power then it kicks back in and keeps skiping and keeps doing that repetatively. The best way I can describe how it feels is when you push in the clutch turn on the car put it in first gear and then let go of the clutch and you don't push in the gas, it just stalls basicly, that's the closest way I can describe it, except my car does this while it's running. At times it doesn't do it when I run the car REAL REAL soft, it might not do it for a bit, and sometimes even if I run it soft it starts doing it. I been told it might be the clutch, transmission(oil?), timing. This is my first car that I even decided to start working on, and this s*** has me stumpt, I don't want to take it in to a shop because I know they will f*** me over.Help me dear Nico club!.

Bleedind as in? I'm new to the whole car lingo so your going to have to break it down for me...Bleeding as in the transmission oil???I haven't changed my transmission oil yet. No store sells the gl-4 around here so I got to get it online, thing is i don't want to buy it yet if that's not the problem, I bought this car about 10,000k ago so it could be likely. I was hoping on changing the oil this weekend, but that wont happen considering I would have to wait for it to be shipped.

I would start with a tune-up. Change the Plugs, Wire, Cap, and Rotor. Also get some Mass Air-Flow cleaner and clean the MAF out. Look for obvious problems (dry rotted vacuum lines). Is the car stick or auto? Tell your friend he is an idiot for telling you to beat on it to "break the cat in", and dont listen to him again. Just start with the basic stuff first, dont get all worked up over it, and dont take bad advice.

Yeah, he convinced me that there was a bunch of gunk that I needed to get out, and driving it hard would fix that problem I will try to get that done today, any certain brand or type of product I should look out for? should I consider changing the transmission oil?My car is Stick.

Although I doubt it is related to your primary problem, I would say to change all fluids etc. just to get them on your maintance schedule. That way you know when they were last changed and when they are due.

It wouldnt hurt. No certain brand, just go to autozone and buy the stuff. You dont have to get fancy plugs either. If you have the money AMSOIL makes great engine oil, but it is expensive. Also try cleaning out your throttle body. Does your car have a K&N on it by chance?
