s13 short shifter question

so my buddy bought me a short shifter for my b-day. and i am noticing my stock shift knob doesnt seem like it wants to come off. are they removable. and i want to use my stock shift knob if i can so i dont want to saw it off. what do i do?

Just turn it counter-clockwise

Nissan must use some pretty strong threadlock, b/c those things don't wanna come off. If you can't get it just by sheer force, wrap a towel around it and use a pair of vice-grips to help you twist it off.

Which SS did you get? I got the B&M for Christmas and it is amazing.

Nissan appears to use some kind of thread locker on the shift knob. Some folks can get the shift knob off, no problem but others end up tearing the crap out of the thing. A good pair of channels + a rag around the knob might work, but could still tear it up.

Maybe one of those rubber strap wrenches would do the trick?

ive taken off three 240's shift knobs... all were a pain in the ***. first time, me and two guys just bare handed it. second time was by myself, vice grips and a towel. most recent, me and a friend. i had vice grips, no towel, and my friend bare handed it. i prefer the last method...
