s13 seatbelt light and dome light fix after passive restraint system removal...

Not sure if this is a common sense thing or not in the community but I couldn't find any write-ups on it. Basically the passive restraint stuff on my car was removed in favor of s14 seatbelts and seats. I also added in the s13 silvia interior pieces to complete the ensemble.

One thing that bothered me (I know it seems petty) was that how the door switches no longer switched the dome light on and off and when you buckled the seatbelt the light on the dash doesn't do anything. Well I chased the wiring down and found two very simple solutions for both of these issues. I know not everyone's car had this issue after removing the passive restraints and most of you just ignore it. I'm working with an 89 coupe in this instance.

First, the door pins not shutting off the dome light. If you pull back the plastic underneath where the s14 seatbelt bolts to the b pillar on the driver's side you will see the back side of your door pin switch. You will see three wires. You are going to want to cut and splice two of them together as in the following picture...



Next, the seatbelt light on the gauge cluster not doing anything when your seatbelt is buckled. The first thing you need to do is make sure your seatbelt buckle sensor is plugged in to the harness under the driver's seat. You'll want to remove the arm rest and locate the harnesses that your passive seatbelt system control unit was plugged into. Find the blue w/ red stripe wire and splice it to the yellow with green stripe wire. You can pretty much get rid of the rest of the wires except for the lighter, ebrake, and ashtray light wires. Key on engine off. Seatbelt unbuckled, door open dome light on.
