I know the compression on the s13 is apprx. 154 stock. I see people posting different compression figures on their srs' but have never seen a consistent number on any of these. Iv'e seen people posting around 180s', 200s',175s',155s'. What are the correct stock readings from the s13 the s14 and the s15? My redtop has 175-165-165-175. My original sr had 160-150 all the way across. But the book says 154. any ideas.

you aren't doing the test correctly, or your gauge is off. they seem to be good and close on all four though. i'd say you have a fine motor.shaun

Sorry it took so long to reply. Im doing the test correctly. Remember Iv'e had the SR for over three yrs and Im pretty used to checking it. And Iv'e had others that have done the swap check it to. I also have seen others post up 170s and 175s here on the forum as if it was good. Someone could have changed the headgasket out before I got a hold of it to. Some have said maybe it was a sr20de motor. But it doesnt seem to look like one. After comparing blocks of my old one and the head as well. Cant be to sure. What is everyone elses compression at? I'm Pretty sure 100% its det.

my first sr was around 160 all around.

this motor is around 150 on 1, 120 on 2, 95 on 3 and 110 on 4. gotta love it! it still ran 92mph in the 1/8th at 18psi! just spits up oil a lot and smells like gas when driving it. (bad bad blowby actually causing smoke to come out of the valvecover "t". it was actually like that when it made is way over from japan. it was supposed to be checked, but i guess not. it had a turbo upgrade, metal headgasket, and 8 injectors on it. also had a stainless manifold and wierd intercooler upgrade. so i think i still got a ok deal. (bent up body panels there also).

that was a long time ago though when i got this motor. now i get my own motors. :0)

p.s., i had my first sr 3 and a half years ago too! we are old hands at this stuff right? :0)shaun

Yes, old hands. Unfortunatly Iv'e spent a great deal of time repairing wiring and replacing things due to excessive abuse. If you know what I mean. Actually I originally had some issues from the original swap which was done by JEL in long beach. Went there for vacation and messed my ka motor up so I decided to stay a week longer than I was supposed to, so that I could swap to the sr. I was very new to it except I had done a research.Knowing very little about the sr I had to deal with JEL which wasnt very helpful over the phone and they kept my stage 3 clutch master, a/c compressor, and a couple of little things that my brother was going to pick up since he lived in San Diego. Worst vacation ever. To top it off I had some issues with JWTs computer. Eventually I drove out to JWT because they told me to try all sorts of things. I got a diagnostic print out from the consult from nissan and faxed it to them and they couldnt figure it out and I got mad and scheduled an appointment with them and drove out there and made a 40 marathon trip. The funny thing is I drove with the stock ka computer in and they always told me it would never run with it in. I also drove back from the original install with the ka computer in because I couldnt get the JWT computer before I left. Thank God for the afc. Needless to say they checked everything and eventually took the computer out while they thought I wasnt looking and ten minutes later came out and "wow" it worked. Jim Wolf does have a good product. After all they were the one of the first ones in the states to come out with the retuned ecus for our cars. Now I get another motor here in dallas and the valve seat guides are crap. never ending.

do you think they just put in a new computer? sometimes i think that the computer would have gone out whether they tuned it or not...on the very few stories i've heard about jwt messing up. i mean an ecu can go bad stock, or not. how did you check for valve problems on this other motor from dallas?

ps. who had the first sr swap that you heard of? i heard first from a guy named wayne in cali in like 1996.shaun

all that matters is the compression is reasonably high, and even across the cylinders. high numbers can be attributed to carbon buildup...

The carbon buildup is one of the first things I addressed. The piston tops were real clean surprisingly. My honest opinion is that someone who had this engine before me put in a thinner h.g. Dont know. About the ecu Pampadori, It ran pretty well with the stock ka ecu and with another compadres Jwt with same mods. Just not with jwt. I still believe in there product though. They have a great product.
