I am thinking of taking the roll bar off of a 85 jeep cj7 and modding it to fit into my s13, I am wondering if anyone has thought of this and if there would be down sides to doing this compared to buying a cage. I am planning on welding in the cage.

bends are a week point in a cage...if you have ever seen up-close a trophie truck, you would notice there are no bends at all..andways..to make this easy to understand..from a structual point of view...the jeeps cage,if modifyed would defeat the structure of it as you are weekening it to make it fit...id wait..and do it the rite way the first time..there is no replacment for safty, and no replacment for your life!....good luck

is if I took the tubing from the jeep cage and cut it and build a custom cage with that tubing would be better?

I agree with some others, sell for cash and get one that is specifically built for the s13. Cusco, Autopower make some decent ones but yes, the weak points would be where the bolts connect (for a bolt on) and the welding points (welded models). I am looking for one as well, and still debating on bolt in or welded!

I bought the tubing, measured the inside of the car, then took the tubing to an exhaust shop and had them bend what I needed. With around $100, a chop saw and a welder I built mine from scratch. Not the fanciest, but it turned out good IMO.
