Ok, im new to the whole nissan cars thing...ive owned a supra and a stealth and both gave me ****...so i decided to look in to these 240's. I heard they were very fast and nice cars so i started to look in to them. Ive got a couple of questions though, first, just like the thread subject is...whats the difference between a redtop and blacktop. Secondly, does nissan make a 6 cylinder engine...and if so what do i need to look for when searching for a JDM engine. Please help me out.

the only thing different from the two is the black top is newer and will have less mileage. everything else is the same

Wow I am surprised nobody mentioned the Nissan Skyline GT-R RB25DETT or RB26DETT by now, it’s a straight six with twin tubos. It will fit in an S13 or S14 for twice the price of an SR20DET.

Skyline GTR - RB26DETTSkyline GTS-25T - RB25DET

The blacktop motor has slightly stronger pistons that have whats known as a "cooling channel" where the oil from the piston squirters remains in the piston for a little while longer creating cooler piston crown temps. The blacktop engines also should have the updated S14 style water pump which reduces the cavitation problem in the earlier redtops.

so the extra $300-$400 for a blacktop instead of the red top is worth it?
