Hey guys,

I've heard some mixed opinions in regards to swapping in a redtop S13 SR into a s14. I've got a 1995 and i'm planning on doing this swap in the next few months. I've been reading up and have heard that this is the most "difficult" of all SR swaps, something about the wiring harness being a pain to re-wire.

Can you guys provide your experiences with this swap? Thanks :D Is it any easier if you swap in a S14 SR?

I will give you some info man,

had a 95 with a s13 redtop. yes i heard the wiring was a pain so i sent my harness off and had it done professionally(great idea there) but anyways other than set back it was great...ran 8.60's in a 1/8th with a vlsd and waxed lots of stangs. for a stock motor i was impressed with the overall performance of it, but stepping up to a s14 swap is nothing more than pure upgrading. your decision bro

yeah thanks for the info,

I have a auto 1995 right now and i've figured instead of wasting 1k on a 5spd swap, etc I still wont be at the power/money ratio I will get going with a SR swap.

I think I will go for the SR in a few months, but i've heard that the KA is much more reliable then the SR

I absolutely LOVE my car (also a 95 with a S13 redtop) but if I had a choice to do it over again I think I would just turbo my KA. My SR swap took 6 months to do (mostly because of my bad decision on choice of mechanics...) and I don't know whether to blame the mechanic or the car but it has never been right since!!! It probably runs less than 6 months out of the year. Oh well, I still love the car even if I have spent $25,000 on it. Once you have the SR though you're gonna want to upgrade that too. The faster you CAN go the faster you will WANT to go!!!

BTW, definatly spend the money to get the harness made.

If you have heard the KA-T is more reliable than a SR you have been reading the wrong s***. And the swap is very straight forward. Just have someone do the wiring professionally (Taylor Durdan) and you're set. Do the swap yourself w/ a couple of friends and it will take about a week if you have everything prepped to go.

I had a KAT and a redtop in my S14 and they were both great motors. Wiring a redtop to a S14 isnt that big of a deal, if you are confident enough in wiring a s14 motor into an s14 you can do the s13 too. If you were going to pay someone to do it anyways it doesn't matter at all lol. IMO though you should get a s14 blacktop. Its newer, comes with vtc and a way nicer turbo than the redtop junker.

I totally agree....S14 notch-back's are generally less mileage motors compared to the redtops and came with the T28 bb turbo's similar if not the same to the S15's turbo's...

or he could go s13 blacktop which will have approx the same milage as a s14... and the power is easily upgradable...
