While perusing eBay, I came across these speaker adapters for the rear of an S13... as far as I can tell, you take off the rear covers, bolt these in, and then you can put 6.5" speakers in the stock location.

Does anyone have any experience with these? From the looks of them, it appears as though you wouldn't be able to use the rear hatch cover with them installed, as it would block it from going up all the way.

Here's a pic:

They can be found on this site (not a plug, just for reference)

Any feedback is appreciated - I'd like to know if these are worth looking in to, as 4x6 speakers suck.

Any word on these? I am thinking about buying the 6.5 adapters for the front AND rear, and custom fabrication is out of the question for me.

I ordered the front and rear, and they worked out.

I haven't tried to fit the factory grill over the rears yet. but so far I'm thinking im gonna have to cut the factory plastic.

Thre Rears Do Require Cuting! It's depends on speaker depth and so on.

How deep are those rears that requires cutting?

Did you disconnect the factory Amp? or are you running the rear speakers off the deck?

Here is a link to http://www.crutchfield.com

These adapter plates are much cheaper. I might get these for the coupe I'm about to pick up.

SwirlFX, how do they fit up front? Any cutting or drilling needed? Can you fit the door panel + stock speaker cover over them?

I think that rear speaker conversion is for coupes and not hatchbacks. Because they do look really tall.

lofapoo - I posted a template for the front if your interested. I did it myself and tested it out. Fits like a glove and everything looks all stock.

the rear speaker ones are supposed to fit hatchbacks (i called the seller) but its not easy

i would not reccomend them, you have to remove all the interior from the rear door panels back (which is a HUGE pain in the ***, and you WILL break clips.. which are not cheap from the dealer)

here is what i had to do... -completely remove the rear interior -remove the metal speaker tray, cut a piece out -cut sections of the adapter out so the speaker would fit -drill new mounting holes for the speaker so the terminals were in the right place -use zipties rather than a bolt in one location because the speaker would hit the bolt - cut A LOT of the stock surround out - cut a whole mounting tab off the grille cover (which will probably rattle now)

I only kept them because I already had the speakers, and it will be better in the long run.

I got a pair for the front. Fit the door panel fine, but my speakers are a bit too big to fit flush so needless to say my speakers are only held in by two screws. The speakers are temporary and sound much better than my old factory 1989 4x6s

That's good to know. I just got mine in the mail today and I test fitted the infinity reference components I bought. The woofer fits fine with some room to spare. The woofer's mounting holes even line up with the a set of the holes they drilled out of the plate. And the PVC is very stout. Seems like it would take a lot to break them.

Ah, Infinitys, you bastard. If I wasn't so broke I'd buy a pair of Infinitys to hook up to my Infinity 102a amp, but alas...

Sounddomain is selling them for $130 shipped right now. They are the current grey model. I think infinity is going to redo the line (aka change the color again) this year, so that explains the price. Crutchfield has them for $150 shipped, I think the shipping is free.

Just to let you know lofapoo, the Infinity's fit perfect! The screw patterns that the plate has line up great. You just have to swivel them around to fin the right holes that line up.

LOL. Look at the picture above.

He put in Focal 165CA1s. The coaxial version of the 165A1s. I personally would have gone wirh the A1s instead(I already did ), the the CA1s should be fine in the rear.

What did you put in the front swirly? Possibly some KFs or K2Ps

I'm confused. You quoted lofapoo's response to me, but you are telling him to look at swirlFX's set up in the rear. I put infinity reference components up front in my car using the ebay front plates. I took the back speakers out and did not put anything else there. I just run the components. So what's going on?

Gotcha. That makes sense. I wish I could afford some of the better Focal components. For the price though, Infinity's are hard to beat.

Hehe, just to rub it in... I get 70% off of JL audio products!

I'm getting a JL 500/1 amp to power two 12W3V2D4s. In the future I may get another 500/1 if I upgrade to two 12W6s

Two words for you to express my envy. F*** Y** (in all capital letters!) J/K. I love JL Audio. Great products. My ideal setup would be one JL 12w6v2 in the JL built ported enclosure (forgot what it's called), 500/1 amp for sub, 300/2 amp for Focal utopia (do they still make these? I stopped looking at them bc I could never afford them, they were my dream components, and the pain of not having them was too much to bear ) 6.5" components. Audiocontrol line drivers, EQ's, etc. and stinger stuff.
