So we were taking the internals of the rear diff apart (factory S13 diff) and noticed some heat marks around where the bearings rest for the axels. We took off the bearing caps and found what looked like excessive heat that you usually see with spun bearings. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm sure they have since the cars are getting high in the mileage, but whats the fix everyone is doing? Can they be machined and just have the bearings replaced?
Or will that put it out of round too far and the bearing wont ride right?
I'm sure everyone will just say to get a new diff but I'm worried any other one I get may have the same issues and it will be a waste of money. So what can I do to make sure that it will all be good bearing wise?
Thanks in advance for any help.

replace the bearings in the rear diff. although i would check to see if there is play in the output shafts.if there is not id say your fine. Ive gotten wheel bearings (hubs with bearings) brand new that had heat marks. doesn't necessarily mean its bad

Alright. I just was going to do that but wanted to make sure I would tear through another set of brand new bearings then
