so i've had my S1 rb25 running in my s13 for almost a year now. i did the install and wiring myself. its run great and haven't had any problems except now that its getting warmer outside, i'm once again noticing its fussiness with starting when the warmed up.

the first issue it has is it just doesn't like to start when its completely warmed up. it will only start with me giving it just a little gas.

second is the starter will stick and grind when the engine is hot. it did it with the stock clutch and flywheel and it really bugged me once i put the exedy hyper single on; it didn't get worse its just chewing up the ring gear on something that wasn't cheap or fun to install.

any help would be great because i don't feel good about having to kick the throttle every time i restart after driving and i hate the sound of the starter grinding.

whoaaa.. are you sure you installed the flywheel on right? and lined up the dol pin on the crank cog? there should be absolutly no grinding or chewing when starting.. my advice is to remove the starter and check inside the housing make sure your teeth are mating correctly, while your at it might want to test the starter as well.

pretty sure its all installed properly. i've done plenty of clutches before and with how much of a pain it was to do this one i took a little extra time making sure everything was right. when the engine is cold it starts fine with no grinds. when its hot or even just on a pretty warm day the starter will grind for a couple seconds after i've released the key.

I'm guessing here, but it sounds like your solenoid is not retracting quickly enough to pull the starter cog away from the flywheel. I'd look at the starter before I looked at anything else.

i'm gonna see if i can find time to check out the starter tonight. my buddies m3/318ti swap is making me angry and maybe staring at something non-german will help relax me.

Your bendix might be dry, trying giving it a little lube job. Something quick and easy like WD-40. If the problem goes away, then look into taking it apart to grease it properly.
