I just bought my 240. It's a 93 H/B, huter green, SE w/ vlsd, super hicas, and ABS.

I have a couple of q's though.

1. There is a low pitched 'wine' coming from the engine. The timing chain is quite, this is something else. It's pretty constant...you can hear it throughout the entire rev range and at idle. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. The motor feels strong though, soooo any ideas?

2. How does one go about completely removing Hicas? I don't want just the eliminator bar...I want it (and all added p/s lines) completely removed. What parts will I need or have to change?

I also wanted to mention...this is a canadian model! Is there anything different that I should know about? One thing I thought was cool is that it doesn't have those electric seatbelts...they are fixed. Also, the color (hunter green); I've never seen it before. It it a Canadian only color?

Thanks in advance!:)

*Mods* - I had posted this (by accident) in the general forums, so please don't delete this one.:crazy

The whine may be the p/s pump or possibly the alt. I don't know about the second half of your question.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm leaning more towards p/s b/c I've had an alternator go bad before and it didn't sound like this. Thanks.

here is the trick for the hicas. the hicas pump will have 3 outlets, the normal pump will have 2. So if you have to replace the PS pump anyway.. now is the time to look into hicas elim..

There are 2 p/s lines at the rear of the car though...so does it 'T' off somewhere? Also, if I do that, all I will need is an eliminator bar, right? Know where to get one? Thanks.

i havent seen the hicas pump in person, so i cant comment on the T - thing. Search aroudn on here, there was a post on how to keep hicas when you SR swap. Never seen an eliminator bar.. but without PS fluid you need something to keep the back tires from floppin around...

As for removing Super HICAS, when I first bought my car, I wanted to get rid of it too. I autocross, and I thought that having the HICAS system might make the rear end of the car vague and hard to control. In a way, this is true, but if you learn the system it can actually help. If you plan to drift the car, however, eliminating HICAS is a must.

Sometime next week, I am going to try to splice in a switch in one of the wires that HICAS uses. When any part of the system stops working, the wheels lock straight and the HICAS light goes on.

If I get this to work right (don't know why it wouldn't) I should be able to turn the system on and off from the ****pit.

Ill experiment and write up a little how-to when I am done.

I don't like the Hicas system at all. It acts reaally weird when I drive over uneven surfaces...the rear will step out and correct itself...kinda scary on elevated highway exits.:\

I really want that eliminator bar and non-hicas p/s pump. What Cyberkreig says about the pump dying and the wheels wobbling around seems so make sense. I REALLY don't want to find out first hand though. I've searched Hicas, but there are many, many threads mentioning it, so it's hard to sift through the crap. If anyone has any usefull info or links, please provide them. If I find anything out, I'll post it here.:)

Thank you!

i poked around a bit, but couldnt find anything for you. I wonder what keeps the back wheels in line on non-hicas cars? The basic setup has to be the same. Maybe there is some kind of OE elim. bar? If so the local nissan dealer would have some info.

If anyone has some pictures of their S13's non-Hicas rear-ends, could you please post them or send them to me: [email protected]I am trying to get to the bottom of this HICAS garbage and once I figure it all out, I will post all my info here. Thanks.

OK, now I'm confused again because of THIS. Why on earth would the steering hub be different? I asked the shady folk at Jspec.com for an explanation...their reply 'it does not work on the hicas'. Grrr. Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Sorry you are having such trouble with this. The only guess i could offer you would be that the hicas hub has some kind of sensor...
