I picked up a white 91 hatch with a blown headgasket, pretty good body, and immaculate interior for $250 a few months ago. Since I had a KA lying around from my engine swap, I decided to swap my head onto this new hatch, and give the car to my brother. After a couple day's work, we started it up, and it sounded fine...except for a hellacious knocking from the bottom end. The motor was filled with "chocolate milkshake" aka oil + water when I got it. I assume they ran it for a little while, and killed the bearings. No big deal...I accepted this as a pretty likely possibility when I bought it. Well, my brother doesn't want to mess with it anymore, so I guess I'll keep it.

This brings me around to my question: What should I do with this car, aside from swapping my old KA in with the good head...which doesn't sound too fun? I'll do that if all else fails, just to get it running.

I'd prefer the project be under $2000 for engine/drivetrain work, which pretty much rules out the usual CA/SR/RB swaps...I have a CA s13 already anyways. This car has cost me practically nothing...so it can be junkyarded together, and if it doesn't work, it's no great loss. Plus, there's no set timeframe for completion; I can spend a lot of timne sourcing parts. I'd almost prefer it be set up for drag...since my CA coupe is being set up more as a road course/drift/handling car. I've looked briefly at a few options: weird ca20 turbo or n/a hybrids, VG series, L28, FJ series, even 7m's and 1jz's. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks

Aren't RB20's supposed to be getting much more affordable?

Or find an old Chevy V8 and spend ALOT of money on custom motor mounts :D
