hey guys.
i acquired this car in 2007 and drove it for a year bone stock. i got it for $801 not running, turned out to be bad battery terminals so $5 later i had a running car that i proceeded to put 10k on. One day the fuel pump died, and i decided that i wanted to have a little fun with the car. i decided that new struts and springs as well as a full es bushing kit would be fun. being younger and dumb, i decided to buy solid sub-frame bushings and an obx hlsd. in retrospect i really should have bought an s15 diff but like i said, i was young and stupid. in the past 2 years, i have refined the rebuild of the obx diff, and it does work well, its just noisy, but the correct washers and setup fixes the problem for a while. over the winter of 08 i decided to put a roll bar in the car as well as a seat, wheel, and hub. i also stitch welded the bay, gutted the sound tar, and painted the bay and interior ppg black. while i was at it i regasketed the old kae motor. from febuary to november 09' i basically beat the s*** out of it with many auto-crosses and late night slides. one night the motor developed rod knock and ultimatly was put to pasture with 200k-ish on it. in my pondering of what to do, i just happened to have a class with this kid that a year prior, had told me that he had an s14 sr laying around from a shop that went under. luckily he still had it, but could not find the harness. i did a leakdown on the motor and it was less then %10 on a stone cold across the board. i was able to talk the kid down to $900 for the motor and trans. i was able to acquire a wc harness and ecu, as well as a q45 ignitor for $330. a cx racing ic setup modified for a 1g dsm recirc valve finished it off. it is running off the sohc maf, but according t my lc1, the afc neo needs to pull like 45% across the board, but it runs really well. 14.7 at idle, 11.5 at wot. only issue is the 115mph top speed limiter. all of 2010, this car was basically my track car. i drove it on the streets a little but, i did 8 track events from april to october and absolutly love the car. i changed and added a few thing thoughout the season. russel brake lines, mishimoto rad, fal 14" fan, track hawk blues and track rotors. as it sits, it is in the corner of the garage waiting for spring to come, for the 2011 season to begin. i recently rebuilt the diff, created my own nismo powerbrace, and made a skidplate/air deflector out of of an old one way sign. i know im not low, but some of the gators at the tracks are huge, and ive already got scrapes on my brand new moroso oil pan. Ill update this post occasionally, it will probably become a dumping spot for pictures. This will not be a top dollar build, this is a track slut that in my mind is a write off the second its on track. Future plans are paint as soon as its warm, some sort of tune or ems, lower stance in the front as well as more camber, and lots of tires.

got any good recommendations for a tune? im thinking just a re-flash as i dont really want to be tweaking my tune all the time. i race the car and am constantly changing my setup, so having to worry about my engine tune will be too much.

is the limiter i experience at 115 built into the ecu or am i running off the soch maf?

everything looks great! really clean work

and yes the liniter is from the ecu.... if your considering a tune, that problem is easily fixed

well what im acutally about to do is buy a nistune board, and load a stock map with the speed limiter removed

and then when i acutally need a tune, it is ready

if you are really worried about a tune, then the only real option is a full dyno tune... and thats expensive for a mostly stock set up

i dont really care about a tune, it runs really well as is. the issue i have is the speed limiter. this car see's more track time then street use. at my favorite track, so far, Gratten, i hit the speed limiter 3/4 of the way down the front striaght. its kinda wack. i looked into nistune and i like it a a lot, but i have an s14 sr in an s13 and not consult wired up. i guess i could wire that s*** up rather easily but it is next to impossible to find an s14 in a junkyard that hasnt been picked to death around me to rip a consult port out of.

really, all i want/need is the limiter removed and rescale my maf table for the sohc maf.

Easiest and cheapest way to kill the speed limiter is to just cut the wire that sends the signal to the ecu. If the ecu doesn't know how fast its going it can't limit the speed.

I've also seen guys cut one of the wires for the speed sensor, then run both ends of said cut wire to a switch inside the car so they can flip it off when they don't want a speed limiter. It is important to note that this method also kills the speedo whenever the you don't want the limiter to work.

i did a lot of research while i was at gratten and first encountered the problem. it was determined that what you posted works perfectly fine for an s13 sr, but does not work with an s14 sr. i found that if the ecu does not know the speed, the car will basically not accelerate in fourth or fifth gear. the only way round it is a tune.

Nice "budget" truck and trailer. Lol.

Car looks good. I like the idea of function over form and I'm sure it's fun on the track. Do you plan on upgrading to coilovers?

Hmmm......this is the first time I've heard of that, I know a local guy with a s14 sr that did the second method without any issues that I know of.

Hell, next chance you get just unplug the speed sensor and see what that does for you. I figure worst case scenario you will have to unplug the 5th gear sensor as well, so the ecu doesn't know it is in 5th gear and won't limit power.(can't remember if sr's have a 4th gear sensor but If it does it will need to be unplugged also)

can you talk to that guy to verify?

as for the truck, i wish that was mine. i am thankful to have very generous, rich friends.

i would like to upgrade to coilovers, i dream about moton tripples, but currently and probably forever, they are out of the budget. the agx's are like new, im thinking of going with ground control sleeves and eibach 700/400, and possibly pillow-ball mounts for the front. this way, i can easily replace the dampers should s*** happen, casue it will, and carry around a few spares.
