s13 power window conversion

Im in the process of doing a manual to power window conversion on my 93 hatchback. I already ran the necessary wiring to each door, and i have the door harnesses for both sides. My question is, is the power window amp necessary to use/wire? What is it's function? I don't see the need for it, I would simply run the power to my driver side switch, then directly to the motor, and vice versa with the other side.

Are you changing the entire door for power doors or just the "guts"?? I did this swap in an 89 coupe but had a set of power doors and just did the other wiring inside the car and everything works perfectly, I forget what was missing inside as far as all that went but it works perfectly...I would have to go back and retrace my steps though because its been forever since I did my swap.
