So im doing a vq swap into my 240sx and im trying to figure out what im going to do about the power steering.
The 350z pump puts out about 1400psi, while the s13 pump puts out 1100psi.
It seems to me that the s13 rack would probably be able to handle the extra pressure, as power steering racks havent changed much over the past few years, but I still am a little worried... anyone think this is a bad idea?
Another option is the s14 power steering rack, which is designed for 1300psi and has the same steering ratio/movement distance as the s13 rack, the only difference being the tie rods, and the fact that the goofy s13 rack has longer threads on one side than the other... or atleast those are the differences i found according to this:http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=158892
My s13s current steering rack leaks and seems generally beat up, so im going to buy a new one... the question is, what route should i go?
1) Just hook up the 350z pump to a new s13 rack
2) Use the 350z pump and try to fit in a s14 rack
or
3) Use an s13 pump with the 350z pulley (max rpm will almost be identical due to the slightly larger 350z pulley and the slightly higher 350z redline) and an s13 steering rack
option 1 is the easiest, but the s13 rack isnt guranteed to stand up to the pressure.. steering might get to light too. Option 2 seems like the best solution, but I have no confirmation that the s14 rack will actually work. Option 3 is guaranteed to work perfectly, but its the most difficult... not that bad, though.
what do you guys think?
