On my 1990 240sx I took the power steering off for like a year (resevoir and belt/pulley). Today I wanted it back so I put the it all back on and with the front wheels off the ground slowly filled it up with luid and turned the wheels back and forth. Everything seeded fine. Then I put the car on the ground and try it out. Works great except when you turn the wheels to the limit either left or right and it makes horrible noise and the pump looks like it stops and the belt is still going. After taking it away from the limit it is normal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It is normal for it to make excessive noise at the limits. Are you absolutly sure the pulley is stopping?

yes, the power steering pump pulley seems to stop spinning and it makes a loud screech. I assume the belt is making the noise.

How is the belt tension? 1/2 inch deflection is all you should have. If its not a loose belt then its likely the pump internals.
