The previous owner of my car removed the factory speaker plates and installed 6x9's. I think their 6x9's, whatever, the factory plates are gone and now I don't have anything to trace

If any S13 owners out there are in the process of making their own front speaker plates (Underground? ) by tracing the oem ones, can one of you scan me a copy of the outline including the mounting hole locations? Maybe make a pdf file out of it so I can just print it out at 100%, cut it out, and trace it onto the wood I'll be using to make my own plates?

I was thinking of just a fax (a simpler way), but I'm not too sure about giving out my number to strangers, even if its a nico member.

It should be smaller than 8.5" x 11" so I don't see why this wouldn't work.

If anyone bothers to do this, it would be greatly appreciated If not, then no worries. Let this thread die and become just another one of "those speaker plate threads."

Oh and btw, I'm planning to install cdt hd-62's. They're 6.5's with a mounting depth of 2 3/4 " If anyone has installed speakers similar in depth, how thick was your plate? Any clearance issues?

I'm awaiting a set of adapters to fit 6.5's in the front doors - I'll send you a copy of one when they arrive.

just a quick note.... depending on what speakers you are putting in the door of your s13 it may be wise to measure and see if they will clear the glass when the window is down... my bostons are too deep. in addition to this take this into consideration: when they get wet the doors on the s13 tend to get water around on many things... you may want to make a speaker mount that sticks out a bit from the door (but still small enough to clear the panel) and has a rear cover that is vented on the bottom to protect your speakers from water, among other things... this is a suggestion that i really hope you take into consideration... i am making custom door panels and rear speaker covers in my s13 right now, and i have the door panels removed. yesterday i washed my car and i was surprised at just how much water actually got back there... it's not damaging and it drains off and drys really quickly, but i can only imagine what it would do to my speakers... if i think of any other helpful advice i'll post again. if you have never used fiberglass before i reccommend you do some reading and think about making some mounts yourself... if you have someone else do it it could be quite pricey... which is why i'm not suggesting that i make some for you. plus you get the experience. anyway hope this helps. ha so much for a quick note...

AustinSilvia, what models of bostons were they? Or rather, what's the mounting depth on those speakers? Hearing that some 6.5's couldn't fit without fiberglass enclosures is kinda dissappointing to hear because I really want these cdts. Thanks for the input. I'd better measure things out first before buying them.

Yeah was concerned about them getting wet, but I'm gonna buy those protective baffles (i think thats what they're called) from crutchfield to guard against water. Will they negatively alter the sound of the 6.5s in any way?

I'm gonna stay away from fiberglass. I don't think I could fabricate custom mounts that would come out very clean the first couple of tries. Also I want to keep a stock-looking install. Thanks for the advice though, and more is always welcome.

I bought the maplewood adapters from Underground a couple of months ago and they suck. j/k, they work. It arrived broken on one of the corners since the maple is only 1/4 inch thick, but a little duct tape and a drill came in handy. I installed Boston Acoustics ProSeries 6.5 inch components with the adapters and they fit. They JUST clear a rolled down window. I'm also thinking about investing in speaker baffles, but the window clearance might become an issue. Here's some links:

I'm probably gonna try these out:http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust...age=1

i was worried that the mounting depth would be an issue, but seeing that the BA's are 2 3/8", i don't think i'll have any problems mounting the CDTs. i'm planning to make the plates a bit thicker maybe 1/2 " or so. thanks for the links too.

I don't think I'll be getting mine after all.

However, i have some adapters to fit 4" speakers in the doors if anyone's interested.

I already did my rear deck with 6x9's. I wanted that factory look to and I must say that the route I took makes them look off the chain! I went to the junk yard and took out the 6x9 rear speaker mounting decks from a 1991 USDM Acura Legend (the plastic thing that the speakers actually sit in with a grill over top). Then I measured a rectangle proportionate on both sides and took a dremmel with carbon blades and cut it out. It took a lot of time, a lot of patience but the payoff is worth it. I'll take pictures of it and post it when my wife comes back from Iraq with my digital camera. Soon I will scour the junk yard and try to find 6.5 inch speaker mounts from another car. Probably a 1994 Lexus GS 300. They came with 6.5's in the door and 6x9's in the rear. Pretty much any luxury car came with these sizes. My S13 sounds SO MUCH BETTER now with the 6x9's mounted properly and 6x9 speaker baffles. I cut a hole in the bottom of the speaker baffle about the size of a dime so the speaker could breath a little. You can make ANYTHING fit in your car as long as you have imagination. It's about trial and error. I hope this helps out a little. I'll probably post a how to for the 6x9's with PIC's. I have to do like 5 other S13's now that everyone has seen mine!
