hey guys...i'm plannin to buy a 240 soon to turbo the KA motor...i have a couple of things in mind....

my primary question is whether the S14 DOHC KA is a direct replacement for the S13 DOHC KA...as far as sensors are concerned...i'm pretty sure they are but i just need confirmations

my plans: whether i get an S13 or S14 (which ever i find for a decent price for the year/mileage) i plan to work on an extra KA long block on the side so i will not have any down time whatsoever, except on the day of the swap...

most peoples' opinion on my plans: just get a newever S14 and turbo that since the rebuild on a KA longblock (and possibly the sincros(sp?) on the transmission might need replacement too) will eventually add up to what i would have spend if i were to buy...say a 97 SE model (~11000?)

despite of what others are telling me i still kinda want to get an S13 for around 3gs, a KA longblock/transmission/ecu for 550 (got a seller already), and rebuild that longblock with forged rods/pistons/custom turbo with t3/t4bb...etc....which will eventually run me up to around 15000 (est'd MSRP)

cliffnotes: get S13 and rebuild KA24DET on the side to swap OR get 97+ SE model and slap a turbo on??....either way it'll be a custom turbo setup

ANY input on this will sure help me out...thanks alot guys

please no flaming (you're only a newbie etc...) and NO i'm not goin to go with the SR as many are suggesting....

thanks =]

I'm not really sure actually, i guess it all depends on what you like to look at. I LOVE the way s13 fastbacks look, but i also love the 97/98 s14's. You'd definitely be more creative in rebuilding and turbo-ing an s13 (i dont know of anyone who has done that), but i also only know of 2-3 people with turbo'ed s14s. However, i think you would probably save more money going the s13 way, especially if you buy one with a beat up body and blown engine.

Good luck either way, and keep us posted!

yeah...i've been flirting with that idea because the car i drive right now was bought from a junkyard and salvaged...so i know a thing or too about beat up cars....to be honest with you...i really dont recommend buyin a car with a beat up motor and messed-up body to ANYone for the purpose of saving money...i've been through it and it was hell....along with the messed up motor and the beat up body (bad ownership) will come with failing drivetrain and horrible suspension....not to mention the interior will probably be a huge mess....this goes out to young S13 enthusiasts who are seekin for a decent "drift machine" for a bargain price and end up with a complete lemon

S13s in general are cool looking but being an old car it is hard to find one in decent/good condition...that is why i'm debating to get an S14 instead. But then again...fastbacks are light (could be made very light) and sweet lookin as hell =o( i'm basically in a dilemma as you can see.

any more opinions?

I found my 91 se fastback in excellent condition for only $2,412. They're out there, they're just well hidden lol

I'm also planning on turbo'ing the KA. At first I was gonna go for the SR or the CA, but so many people have that it's just more original to do this, although it's gonna be expensive and I won't see any real power until I rebuild the sucker I still like this idea better lol
