I have an 89 and I've been looking for some time to swap in a KADE. I know there's write-ups on how to do it and I'm pretty good at working on engines. My question is, can I use any KADE from 91-98? Should I stick with KA's that came in S13s? I've found some engines around my area but most are from automatic S14s. I can use them and a harness from an S13 right, or are they different?

So mechanically they are the same? I'm just wondering about the electronics. I think I saw somewhere that the S14 KADE doesn't have "swirl control valves" or something like that and the dizzy is different from S13s. I can't find any of that information again.

I never thought I'd have such a hard time finding this information. At this point it seems easier to go with an SR.

u want less headaches stick with an s13 DOHC

its a straight drop in motor all u need is the DOHC engine harness...

if u go S14 form 96+98 even some 95 (late models) u have to change a **** load distributertemp sensorthrttle body

etc

a bunch of crap...

just stick with a dohc from s13

ur gonna need the DOHC ign module and coil...if u need it email me i have mine left over from my old DOHC swap

S14 has a lower quench design, which will increase compression by .3 more. I would say go s14 route, with s13 cam, s13 exhaust headers, and a 91-94 ecu, also s13 distributer since its external like the 89-84 model should fit your car rite. Should yeild better performance than the s13 or s14 with those mods. or just get a reflash ecu and use the n60 or n62 maf. Also on a side note ppl usually take out the butterflies/scv anyways to gain 3 more ponies.

if ur using the s13 chasis, just use everything from the s13, like the ecu, the sensors, the external ignition coil, well just use the s13 harness is wat im saying wen doing the s14 motor swap to s13. Another thing use the s13 maf sensor since there is a diff between the s13 n s14. You can actually make it easier, get ans s13 block with and s14 head.

I am running a S14ka in my S13. The swap was pretty easy, the only things I swapped from the S13ka to the S14ka was the distributor, upper intake manifold (part with the tb), exhaust manifold (you have to, chassis dependant), accessories(didnt know if they were different, so i changed them out anyway. So now i have extras if needed) and I stole the cams from the S13ka for future cam swap. Thats it. Hardest part was getting the damn engine back in the car. Took me forever to think about loosening the motor mounts on the engine up.

actually its not that bad, yes you do have to change your distributor, and all of that other stuff. the easiest way to do it is just sit the motors side by side, strip down the s14 motor (pretty much take the manifolds off), and then transfer everything off of your s13 motor onto it, flywheel can stay from the s14, but be sure that your remove and transfer all of the smart parts. i just did this on mine, i have 91 s13 that i bought with a blown head gasket, found a 98 motor with 67k miles on it for 250. took me like 30 minutes to transfer everything over. so don't be scared to throw and s14 motor into your s13!

This is all great info. I want an S14KA because of the lower mileage and--from what I've read--revised design, but going from a KAE to S14KA would mean I would have to source the smart parts from an S13KA. I haven't done this yet and I'm weighing my options carefully.

I'm for sure you can source a s13ka in cali for around 50 to 150 dollars just need to ask around. I'm actually getting another s14 motor over here for only 50 dollars. Just search in the search section.

they are on the intake runners right before the manifold bolts to the engine. You'd have to take off your entire intake manifold for this. Not worth it unless you are removing all your emissions at the same time
