ok, im trying to decide between a 91+ s13 or s14. can you guys give me some insight on which would be a better buy? this car will be my daily driver, but i would like to make it *somewhat* drift specific. just keep in mind that i wont be dragging it.

and yes, i understand im a noobie trend-whore, i want to drift because it is a new fad and im hip with it. :rolleyes now to get down to business...

are they both reletively the same in terms of handling once the footwork is upgraded?

do you think having the reliability of a newer engine/lower miles is worth the price difference? (im not swapping engines anytime soon)

have you noticed any ways the cars behave differently, do they have separate feels?

can you give me any suggestions before i make a final decision?

ok. s13guys, s14guys, tell me why yours is better :ylsuper

and if you have a car for sale in good condition, dont be afraid to post it. thanks

If you plan on drifting, I believe the S13's weight balance is better. Personally I think the S13 looks better, and you can get one cheaper. Did I forget to mention that they're lighter. Anyonw, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

yes, i agree with most of that

ok, this is going to sound really lame...but my parents insist that i get a newer one because they think it will be more reliable.

but i do have a thing for the s13 coupes, and the lighter weight.

could someone comment on the reliability of the ka? could it battle the reliablity of, dare i say, an econo-box honda engine? or is it apples to oranges since ka is a 2.4L truck motor (somewhat) and b16 is a 1.6L grocery getter (somewhat)

I've been wrestling with the same problem for months man, I swear I've switched back and for so many times I cant even count now. This weekend though, I think I'm going to pick up my s13, and I'll tell you why:

1. the s13 is straight up cheaper. I get as much enjoyment out of working on a car as I do driving it (well, close ;) ), and I feel like if I spend half as much on the car to begin with, I'll have that much extra money to do whatever I want with it down the road. that was really worth something to me. (*yeah I know you can find $3000-$3500 s14s, but they've ALWAYS got somethin wrong that you shouldnt have to deal with)

2. s14s dont necessairly have lower miles. the s13 I might pick up is a 91 with only 90,000 miles on it, and I've seen lots of other s13s with even less. If you're looking at a 95 or even 96 s14, you can pretty much expect around 100,000 miles unless you want to pay 6 or 7k for the car (which I couldnt).

3. I LOVE the look of the S14s, but I think that a freshly painted glossy black s13 hatch with kouki (180sx) tails and something mean under the hood is pretty tough competition as well. I'd rather be able to build the car I want rather than have something out of the box, ya know?

4. I dont know why, but I just liked DRIVING the s13 better. I dont know what it was, maybe someone else can contest to this as well, but I felt much more in control of the car, like I was a part of it instead of just driving it. The s14 felt more bulky to me, and the seeming lower seats (are they really? I donno..) made it less of an engaging-type ride. I donno, these are really my opinions about how the cars feel... you should drive both and make your own conclusions.

Hope this helps man!

they're both good, its usually safer to go newer, but like fiz said s13s can be very nice too. Right now I am looking at s14s because my dad decided to give me a little money on top of my own to get the newer car, so no complaints here :)

S15 > S13 > S14

That's it, no need to argue. Since we can't get the S15 get the next best thing, the S13!! Cheaper, lighter, better looking etc.
