Ok guys I need some help. I bought a redtop a few months ago. It came with the harness still plugged in with a j4 ecu. I know the j4 ecu is for a s14, but what about the harness. How do I tell if its a s13 or s14 harness. Ive been told that if the s14 ecu plugged up the harness then its a s14 harness as well. Because s14 ecu wont plug into a s13 harness. Is this true? Thanks for the help

The J4 ECU is a Type-x ECU.

The S14 designations are usually along the lines of WA, WB, or WC.

Ok so Im still confused. Tell me if I wrong with any of the below.1.The type x ecu will not work on my s13 redtop with out some repinning of my ecu.2. The harness that comes in the type x will still work on my s13 redtop and should be wired to fit just a like a redtop?

Thanks for the help.

So in short even though I recieved a j4 ecu and (possibly) a type x harness, just wire up normally following frsport s13 diagram. And all I will need is a redtop ecu and it should work? Right?

AFAIK, you should be fine just wiring it up normally. When you're doing wiring jobs, what you're essentially doing is supplying the ECU and coils with power and extending a few sensor wires.

Just make sure that at the chassis connectors next to the battery, that your wires match color to color.

I have no experience with J4 ECUs, but I was under the impression that they used a slightly different ECU plug than the 63 and E5 ECUs.

So in other words I will need a new harness if I plan to run a redtop ecu...ie.62,63

I think.

But you have a harness with an ECU. So there's no need to order new stuff

Yeah well I wish it were that easy. I sent the j4 back to JRE for a replacment ecu. They sent me a #60ecu for a sr20de. So now I need a ecu for a redtop and I guess a wire harness. This is great.
