I'm sorry if this has been asked already. Actually I'm sure it has before... it's just a kinda hard thing to search for with such common terms. Hopefully you guys can put it behind you and help me out a little anyways:

I am having a hard time deciding between a s14 or a s13. I understand that the S13 is cheaper, and that really was my first attraction to it (as I'm sure it was for many of us...), but I have to admit that the body shape has kinda grown on me as Ive been looking for cars.

There's always the S14 too though, and nobody can deny that it's sexy as hell (I cant afford the s14a (1997-8), so lets try to limit this to the s14b model.), and the lure of less miles and more modern options is always a big weight for the s14.

Still though, I'm not sure it's worth the extra money. SO... what do you guys think of the differences between the s13 and s14...

Things I know already:

-The s13 is supposed to be slightly lighter/ have a stiffer frame-Obvious age differences-Body styling-Price differences-DOHC versus SOHC... assume all are DOHC in this comparison

I'm really looking for not so obvious differences between the two that might help sway my decision. This can be as much personal experience as well as statistical information.

Please help me out guys, I need you!!

I like being able to throw things in the trunk of my car and having things kept outta site and locked up. The S14 is more attractive than the hatch. The S13 reminds me a little of the early ford probe. Pop up headlight motors will cease to work and can be expensive(at least that was the case in my firebird). And I'm sure there's more but I'm too tired to think right now. 'unbiased' opinion of a S14 owner

The emissions of the s13, and the 95 "only 95" s14 is alot easier to bypass then that of a 96s14. the s14 has nicer mild accomodations, "i.e. many people like my front grill compared to the 95's, but some 96's still have the 95's grill so be careful".

The s14 IMHO is a lot sexier than a s13, but it depends on what you want to do with it. Stock the s14 only needs a pair of side skirts and rear addons to look perfect. the s13 would need a whole body kit to look good, remember this is only my opinion.

You could be lucky on the mileage and find some nice s13's out there, but I have too agree about them looking somewhat like older probes. I actually mistaken a probe tonight for a 240. The pop up lights scare me as well, the motors can get costly i have been told, and if you want performace I personally like the DOHC.

All in all the s13 and s14 are great great cars! Both! But when it comes down to personal prefernce I love my s14 over the s13.

Hope this helps...

So far ive only heard opinion from s14 owners... i DONT think the s14 is more attractive than the s13, the s14 looks like a average joe car. the s13 had advanced styling for its day, and it has a unique line...Of course i prefer the fastback to the coupe as well. Iv beaten a few s14s in a race, the s13 is lighter, and the hp difference is negligable...My lights on my 89 work fine...And i have the pivot for the sleepy eyes jdm drifter. to me the s13 looks a LOT meaner than the s14. And when you consider price, s13s are a lot better deal, especially if your going to go for the SR or whatever engine. A rebuttal by a happy s13 owner

remember 89sxrcr, both us s14 owners said our whole post's were in our opinions only. I also mentioned how much I did like the s13. Just remember my friend, it comes down to personal preference. Didn't mean to sound like I was bashing the s13, my apologies.

true. points for both teams. and oh so polite as well! haha.

the trunk is a good point, I hadnt thought about that- and since I, just like 89, prefer the hatch, that is something I should consider. This is good! I'm looking for this kind of advice!!!

S14 is alot better looking then S13, youll attract alot more attention with the s14 then s13.S14s are also alot more rare then s13, I see s13 allover .. s14 nowhere.s*it in summer when I pull up to a light, all eyes on me!

s13 is lighter and cheaper, and since the drivetrain and engine are the same, it all comes down to how much you like the styling. Neither car will let you down, and there buku mods for both chassis. the S14 does have the option of comming with 16" wheels and LSD...but the s13 can be much cheaper(under 2k for a nice one).

Pick the one you think fits you. If you like the s13's winky-eyes, get a s13. if you want a newer type styling, or a little more room inside get a s14.-chet

finzat, also what are you planning on doing with car? are there any serious mods you want to do? do you want to race it at all in auto-x or the drag? these are questions you need to ask yourself that only you can answer obviously : )

also how much do you plan on spending on the car fixing it up if any?

This is very true, everyone always checks out my 240. But that also worries me more. When ever you have something nice, everyone has to mess with it. If i had an s13 that looked decent, and was fast as hell at least i wouldn't have to worry about someone touching it out int he parking lot.

I'm selling my 1997(black with custom gunmetal rims and Yokohama Parada Spec 2s) 240Sx for $6500. But its automatic and has 107000 miles on it. I'm going to get the Lancer Evo VII or the WRX, which is cheaper. Give me a call if you're interested. My cell # is 848-250-2261. I live in Woodbridge, New Jersey.

It also comes with the C-West eyelids and a dual-deck carbon fiber drag wing(both these items are not installed). I know alot of you guys might think having a drag wing is ricey but if you have the right body kit the wing would look hot. Its fins are curvey not boxey with sharp edges like most drag wings.

I owned a 89 hatch, and a 90 Coupe that really prefered the styling of and now Repo mans 92 240 SX coupe...So the value is there for the S13, I know what you mean about Firebird headlights, but thats GM...say no more. I never had any problems with mine, and with lots of miles on them as well.Find the best one in your privce range and you can't hardly go wrong!

heh Tino, I only ask this question because I found a 95 SE with 100,000 miles on it for $3100. Clean title and everything.

I'll tell you all about it if I decide not to get it.

heh It was $3800, so maybe that number sounds familiar to those looking for cars in the northeast. The guy said the only problem with it is that it is missing the cloth/foam lining on the inside of the roof... (you know, the ceiling?)

That sound familiar to anyone? I'm hoping someone here might have already gone and seen the car, and has some imput about it. It's a clean title and all that-- it just sounds too good to be true...

find me a nice 93 or so (MAYBE 92 or 91) black s13 hatch with a 5 speed and most of the options, with awesome condition interior and exterior, no rust, and low miles, and I'll deliver the car to you myself.

Oh yeah, and for under 3 grand.

it's black with an aftermarket sunroof, one small dent in the fender he said and no headliner. 110,000 miles or so. Sounds nice.
