I am in the process of doing an S13 Manual seatbelt conversion. Installing S14 Seatbelts. The swap itself is easy and understood.

My question is how many of you have done it and removed the Electronic Seatbelt Control Module? Does it affect anything else when removing it?

What is your reason for removing it or leaving it in?

Here is what i am talking about.

I did the same thing and haven't pulled that box out yet either. I have no clue if it will in any way affect other stuff or cause any issues. Other than that it soooo has to go!

Hopefully someone who has experience will chime in.

There should be no negative effects from removing it. All it does is control the belt on the track based on whether the door is open, etc. The dummy light should still flash on stat up since that function's controlled by the TCU.

Why not unplug it and start your car and see if anything goes wrong.

I'm somewhat certain I removed that. I don't think I've had any problems with seatbelts or anything else. I also don't think I get a seat belt light on (though I can't say for certain, being almost a year removed from actually driving the car).

I pulled that box out when I removed the auto-nooses, haven't had any problems. Also, no seatbelt light. Should be fine.

The S13 Seat belt Control Unit is 100% safe to remove, as a matter of fact it is a great idea to remove it when doing the manual seatbelt conversion.

The S13 Seat Belt Control Unit has the following signals, functions and integrations.

-Instrument Panel Seat Belt Warning Light

-Warning Chime (In the USA, M107 (Seat Belt Control Unit) triggers the warning chime. (Specifically via pin #33)

In manual seat belt models, M103(Buckle Switch) triggers the warning chime.)

-Integrates with the 10A Fuse for the Meter and Gauges, Heads up Display Control Unit, Warning Lamps, Auto Antenna Timer, Time Control Unit, Daytime Light Control Unit (Drivers side kick panel)

-Integrates with the 10A Fuse for the Interior Lighting, Radio, Clock, Warning Chime, Time Control Unit, A/T Control Unit, Heads-up Display, HICAS Control Unit, Auto Antenna Timer (Drivers side kick panel)

-LH Buckle Switch

-LH Front Limit Switch (Seat belt Track Sensor)

-RH Front Limit Switch (Seat belt Track Sensor)

-LH Rear Limit Switch (Seat belt Track Sensor)

-RH Rear Limit Switch (Seat belt Track Sensor)

-LH Shoulder Belt Switch (Seat belt Track Sensor)

-RH Shoulder Belt Switch (Seat belt Track Sensor)

-LH Seat belt Drive Motor

-RH Seat belt Drive Motor

-LH Door Latch Switch

-RH Door Latch Switch

Here are the FSM sections which are the most useful for identifying the functionality of the Seat Belt Control Unit.

Great!

Well, this concludes the removal of that box. Hopefully this thread helps others who are also guessing.

Thanks!
