ill definately plan on running the 4.36 then, not like i need anything lower for ITA / SR with the ~150 - 160 rwhp the car will have
I would run a 4.63 with an SR, and a 4.36 with a KA. The KA doesn't have enough RPM in it to suppliment the 4.63, you will be shifting too much.

i have to run single cam KA for ITA, and cars built for ITA / ITS are legal for SR, so 4.36 here i come

ill be moving to SRX after a year or two in SR, still up in the air totally as to what my engine for that will be, especially since SE-R cup is supposed to get restructured as you are well aware of, and that should have happened by the time i get into SRX or whatever it will be called

probably only going to hit 130 ish on the straights there
Until SRX gets more entrants, the KA engine is not allowed for SRX. It still sits as SR only.

thats why im running SR first, so i can build experience, the car can be ready to race for about 10-12k, and i can also run ITA if i keep the single cam, so double the amount of experience available to me if i want

ill be waiting as long as possible to make my SRX engine choice, to leave all my options open

Final 1st gear ratios (:1)

1998 Acura NSX 12.461997 viper 8.16 < - WOW!1997 ZX2 Escort 13.53Honda S2000 14.881994 3000GT VR4 12.611995 DSM 12.822002 DSM 12.041990 Z32 11.842003 350Z 13.421994 Skyline GTR 13.191999 Porsche 911 13.142000 Porsche Boxster 12.46

1991 240sx 13.54

240sx with a 3.69 12.25

So, the S13 with either rear end is well within parameters for a similarly or lesser powered car. Note that many of these also have six gears and might also rev higher.

It would be interesting to see how this would perform with a well powered KA-T

On an interesting side note, the coefficient of drag is 0.3 which is about the same as all the others I saw – including the Porsche.

LOL, still trying to sell me on that? You haven't figured out I've just been arguing with you for the sake of an arguement?

You are like InsanityInc, only you actually have the ability to produce logical thought.

Oh and you can make a school bus with a CoD of .15 and it will produce more drag than an S13 at .30

A combination of c200 components can be used in an r200 for custom ratio. The pinion shaft that is necessary only comes in a few of the d21's but if you like me and have at least 10 at the shop at any given time, not much of a problem.

This is basically what the nismo gear sets are, that is the extent that I will divulge.

Have fun!

Ok that's hitting below the belt. I'm not really trying to argue, I'm trying to get to the bottom of things.

How do you get more drag?

You use a pinion from a c200 - what is a c200? What is a d21?

Seems that the 97-01 Q45 has a swapable 3.69 LSD. Any experience with this ratio?

What size are they? What ratio do they produce in the 200?

Is a taller gear ok with 200-250HP?

Hardly worth the trouble with a turbo car, but definately useful when running a lower displacement hybrid with a much higher redline and wanting to stick with the close ratio fs5 transmission.

Close ratio box isnt quite as important with a turbo car, if you want to change your 1-3 ratios just go with a borg warner T-5. 81-83 280zx T-5 with the option of non-standard NWC (non world class) gear sets. Same transmission that is used in all kinds of mustangs and camaros and will bolt right up to your KA. I would suggest a truck block but can be mated to the 240sx block with a few starter mods. With the 240 block you are limited in flywheel options but using the truck you have the option of using the d21/280zx turbo 240mm flywheel mating surface, 240sx is 225mm. You cant use the larger face flywheels with the 240sx because the offset is different, as the 240sx crank is shorter.

And I say face mating surface because all L/Z/KA flywheels are the same diameter and use the same count ring gear. From 200-240mm are your options when using a L/Z/truck KA. The KA truck flywheel is the same as the 280zx only difference is that it is cast in mexico, Z24 is japan same as the 280zx. Both the 2/4wd are 240mm and that includes the Z24 and KA24

So to boil that down, using a truck block + 280z t-5 gives you 15mm more clutch surface, option for better clutches, higher 1-3 ratios, just to name a couple things. I forget all of the t-5 ratios offhand but 1st is 3.5 compared to the fs5 ~3.3. The lower the 1st ratio (and assuming 4th is usually 1:1, which it is on both in question) the closer ratio your transmission.

And yeah I kind of threw a lot out there at once, feel free to ask.

I didnt say anything about contribution, just that it isnt cool to bash someone for stupid reasons and then keep bringing it up as a figure of speech, basically. Just my opinion that I am entitled to as well as you are to yours.

I was being honest

Case and point about the internet.

I actually think you have the ability to build a 200whp KA, and I think you should do it.

I really only care to talk KA tech anyways.

The borg warner T5 transmission (US manufactured) from the late model 280zx turbo can be used in the S chassis with ka24. This borg warner t5 has a special bellhousing and input shaft to attach to any l, z, or ka series.

This isnt anything new but seems that not many people are aware. The shifter will sit about 1 inch further back and a custom transmission crossmember/driveshaft must be used. A lot of custom parts are available for this early version of the borg warner t5, including custom race oriented gear sets, custom shift, etc.. The bellhousing and input shaft from the 280zx may transfer over to some of the earlier t5 from other models (some are different) or coupled to a full racing aftermarket transmission.

This is not a close ratio transmission in oem form, but for those wanting a decent gear ratio increase without sourcing a ring/pinion/custom diff it is a viable solution.

Wow, thanks for all the info. I'm not sure I want to get into swaping transmitions and all that. I do need an LSD and it seems that the 97-01 Q45 diff will fit and has a 3.69 ratio. This should stretch out my gears by 10%. I'm thinking that it might be nice to be able to hold 1st & 2nd a while longer while the turbo is doing its thing. My car is a road toy, not a strip car and while playing, I often like to ride one gear down. I don't want to bog it too much though.

What do you think about this setup?
