Hi, I have an 89 240 that is desperately in need of a replacement engine. I can acquire another 89 ka for $200 so this is what I am going to do despite having an immaculate 92 ka24de available to me for only $500. The problem is, I don't have the time or money at the moment to complete a de swap.

I am going to buy both engines and just run the single cam for now because it's all I can afford and I have to be able to complete the swap in a single night, 8 hours max.

My question for this forum I hope is a simple one. Can anyone give or point in the direction of solid directions for removal and installation? I would like to keep this as smooth as possible to get the new engine in and running that night and don't want to be bothered disconnecting things that don't need to be, or missing something small that DOES need to be removed to pull the old engine.

Any help is greatly appreciated please, thanks.

maybe if you post in the ka24e or ka24de forums you would get more feedback/answers of the mechanical section.

Good luck

basically just unplug all the wiring, drain all fluids, disconect all hoses, remove driveshaft, unboly motor from mounts and lift it out....

So basically like removing any domestic small block from an older vehicle? Are there any particularly troublesome things to watch out for?

When you remove the engine is it easier to remove it with the transmission still attached or to leave the transmission in the car and just unbolt it?

attached if you can get it up high enough, and if you have a load leveling cherry picker.

while were on the topic. what do you need to attach the engine to the leveler chains? are there some sort of eyehole things i need to buy to bolt into the head.

This is from an old post:

Front (passenger side) of the head there are 2 holes, for a 14mm bolt...right above the water neck.Rear of the head (drivers side) ther are 2 holes for 12mm bolt.
