I have a 93 coupe and im in the process of putting a new timing set and i also had a rod start knocking so i was going to replace the bearing as well . I cannot pull the motor where i live and do not have anywhere to do it. I basically have everything unvolted from the engine except bottom timing cover and oil pan , can i change the rod bearings without pulling the engine from underneath the car without unhooking the timing chains , or just in any way possible? I really need to get this car back together as its my DD and im borrowing a car right now , any ideas would be great ..

Thanks

Chris

no you cannot..and should not...its not a hard job to do...but..you have to prepare a few things first..

#1. you need to investigate to see if your main jornals are circular still or if they have spun a bearing..worn throu a bearing..and have become eliptical in shape(Oval)...this is extreemly important...if ya spun a bearing you would have to take the block down and have the journals line honed to get them back to trueness..the machine shop would then sugest the (oversize) bearings to use....if your all good and your absolutly shure you are..then its a matter of droping the crank..and slapping the new bearings in with some prelube on them (to prevent dry start) and torquing things back to spec..but you will have to have a place to do that in..and you should remove the block from the vehicle to do it properly..good luck.
