Hello people.

Just a couple of questions. I know people have had similar issues but I haven't heard of the same problem with the ECU.

I rebuilt a working ca18det engine out of my s13 over the space of two years. Im at the stage where I just want to see if it runs but I can't get it started. I have spark and compression though the bores are a bit washed out due to the injectors over fueling. Now I stupidly added stage 3 parts to the car before trying to start it. The injectors seemed to be stuck open as they were flooding the bores just on prime and also while cranking with the plugs off. So put everything back to how it was when it was running and still no luck, the stock injectors were still flooding. :bs:

So I thought I'd check the ECU for fault codes (bear in mind I'd never checked it before when it was running). When I turned the adjustment screw the green light vanishes and nothing else happens. When I turn the ignition on both green and red light quickly flash so I know the red light works but it just doesn't go into any other modes, nothing. :werd:

So any ideas guys? ECU fried? injectors flow tested, most likely buggered?

EDIT: Just remembered you have CA18 - some of this might not work as I don't know CA's - sorry!

If the injector O-rings get pinched when you install them in the fuel rail, you will POUR fuel into the cyls. Pull the whole fuel rail off the intake with the wires and fuel lines still connected, and turn on the key to prime the fuel pump. If you see any fuel dripping out check the O-rings for that injector. I use a little WD40 on the O-rings to make install easier.

While you have it off, you can crank the engine and look for injector spray - all 4 should spray at once during startup cranking.

Good luck!

PS if you did cams or had the CAS out, you also may need to redo / check the timing. If anything in the FSM procedure for installing CAS doesn't match up with your setup, your CAS or cam timing might be off.

Thanks for the reply. Nope everything you've said is ok for the CA's.

Good idea! I'll test the injectors tomorrow with the fuel rail out. The injectors firing at all the same time was one of the questions I was going to ask, so thanks again. I did a noid test on them and and they were all flashing at the same time except for one. I found out I had the F.I.C.D. Solenoid valve plug mixed up with cylinder 4 injector plug, so I wonder if that's done anything to the ECU.

I've checked, checked and checked again on the timing so I'd be surprised if that's out. I'll post back with results.

Right I took the rail off with the injectors still in. Although the pressure was to much for the injectors and popped them out more than once I had a few more attempts and it seems they do hold their pressure, which is one good thing I suppose.

They definitely wouldn't of made it through cranking so I didn't bother, plus I wouldn't of been able to see the spray patern the way they were sitting.

So I called two companies who are going to check my ECU and the other to flow test my injectors. Sending them off tomorrow.

Don't know if anyone is interested but my stock and 444cc injectors were apparently all ok, holding pressure and good spray pattern. Cost near on £100, not to bad.

The ECU is another story. Firstly, before I sent the ECU off to be repaired if needed I noid light tested the injectors and found it had cylinder four injector plug mixed up with the PCV valve plug, damn plugs are all the same! Swapped them around no luck, so sent it off. Got my ECU back from ECU testing which cost me £252!! I know rip off! And worst of all after about five calls to them trying to get to the bottom of what they had actually fixed, each time being told something different, they told me the fault was with the stage 2 chip I had been running for two years previous. All they had done was clean the board up and re-flow the chip, then put a load of void warranty stickers around it so I couldn't get inside! Was not happy.

On a plus side first crank and she fired up. So whatever they had done worked, I think I'll run it in before putting the stage 3 parts in though.

Make sure you change the oil out after all of this excessive fueling. I'm sure its contaminted with fuel now if you haven't changed it already. Not good for a freshly rebuilt engine.

Your very right I've been checking it all the way through. It definitely has it's basically just petrol in the engine at the moment. I'm going to get the radiator, intercooler and inside wiring sorted out first, then I'll flush it through. Thanks though!
