So, my '92 S13 hatch was stolen and recovered, and is still sitting where it was found, all smelly and good. During the time it was gone, I misplaced my key (... ok, so I threw it away like a dumbass in an act of sentimental closer). There's no key code in the glovebox, and the VIN isn't in the dealer database.

Following some second-hand advice from various forums, including this one, I removed the lock cylinder from the passenger door, in hopes of getting a key cut from the locksmith. I just called a locksmith, but the guy didn't sound so sure about making a key from my cylinder that would work on the doors and ignition.

Has anyone had success in getting a key cut from the passenger door/trunk lock cylinder that would work on the ignition? If so, what's a good, fairly cheep source (local lock smith or Home Depot springs to mind)?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the doors but I know if you remove the ignition one it can be done. I just asked the honda dealership(parts for my gfs accord) about it for my MX6(3 cars is too much to keep track of the keys lol).

I would think a tallented locksmith could do it with a door lock. Because you can see all the tumblers and fine tune the cut and when it is done I dont see why it woulnt fit in the ignition.

I have done it.

I am 100% sure they can do it, but they will have to maunally cut the ket to make it work. Using the old slot punch thingy (the locksmith will know what i mean).

The pattern or code is the same for both the door and the ignition. And remember to use a metal brush to wear down the metar burrs that happen because of this kind of key-cutting.

Awesome! Thanks for the help.

I can't wait to get my S13 going again; I've got plans for it.

Thanks everybody! I got it started today with a key made from the passenger door.

Just wanted to leave this post, so any future searches would return a conclusive thread. According to the locksmith, the passenger door lock cylinder has all the wafers necessary to cut a full key.
