S13 HICAS Rack Question

Are there any aesthetic differences between the HICAS and NON-HICAS front steering racks on an S13? I know the steering ratios are different between the two. Do they have identical exteriors? How can you tell the difference between them? Thanks for the help.

Hicas 240sx's have "HICAS" on the quarter panel.

quarter panel? you mean there is a badge or is it on the firewall? and is there a way to tell if the differential is limited slip just by looking at it?

....I am refering to the rack itself, not the chassis.

...If you had two racks on the floor in front of you, one HICAS, one NON-HICAS....how could you tell the difference?

i have hicas and i dont think there rack is any different - i think. hicas just adds extra plumbing to the rear atc. but since the energy sus bushings fit the hicas rack, and the steering arms are the same, then my best guess says they would be the same piece. only difference would be internal in the gearing/ratio.

Are there extra ports on the HICAS rack for lines that run to the rear?

no the rear rack is fed from the ps pump directly. from the pump 2 high pressure lines exit. one to the front rack and another going to a valve/box on the passenger frame rail. then on to the rear rack.

Ohhhh yeah. If I recall, it even has its own reservoir back in the trunk area.

So how can you tell the two front racks apart?

Hate to resurrect this...but anyone know how to tell the differences between the hicas and non hicas front racks?

the ratio is different from lock to lock on the hicas would be less turns than the non hicas

so if you had two in from of you, count full rotations from lock to lock, the one that did it in less is hicas if there isnt any aesthetic differences
