s13 hatch LED 3rd brake light

A buddy and I wired up a 3rd brake light. We used 20 LEDS and 4 resistors. (4 rows of 5)

When I first tried to wire it into the car without testing it. I got absolutely nothing idk maybe I wired it incorrectly?...

But then I finally got a 12V power supply to test it with

They all lit up then all of a sudden a spark and they all shut off row by row. I also noticed that the wires got pretty hot.

I got a few of them to light up after that.

Decided I'd replace the resistors with new ones maybe they blew? Did that and can only get 3 or 4 to light up and they're not even in the same row.

LEDS appear to NOT be blown, idk what the problem is... help?

i dont know much about sodering led lights. there is a write up for them isnt there?

i've only ever seen 3. There was never one that i've seen with pictures of the LED wiring itself. They only speak of what products to use and then what the final result looks like.

I guess I fail.

Oh yeah 'srpowered' I tried to tint my tail lights but idk if you saw how they came out or not.. They're really dark. I'm debating whether I'm going to keep them like that and clear coat them or take it off and make retry for a lighter look.

so do i fail? should i take the night shade off and clean em up and then try to do it again but not as dark and clear coat them??

i'm not sure what would look good on a red car (tinted tails or what not)

maybe just tint the center piece?

if its too dark, strip it with paint thinner, then try again. just make sure its a bright day, and you can judge after each coat. you can always lay more, hard to pull back a layer. so do it slowly.
