Today, on my way to work, I noticed that my car seemed to be running a little screwy. Well, on my way home, it was running horribly. It has absolutely no power. It feels like it has about 20 horsepower. I checked my oil before I left work, and it was low, so i put some in there, but it still got progressively worse after that. I have to almost floor it at a red light to get the car to move. And the rpm's go up just like they should, the car just doesnt move, until I'm almost redlining it. and it was all it could do to go 25mph down a backroad. The engine runs very smooth. The transmission still shifts gears just fine. Theres no difference in any of the gears, like, it doesnt run fine in 2nd but not in first. It doesnt have any power through the whole spectrum. Its been running fine since I had it. This is the first problem like this I've ever had. The car has 163,000 miles on it, and its up to date on maintenance.

btw, there was also a slight burning smell when I got home. i don't know exactly what it was, but i'm sure that going 15 miles averaging about 5000rpm had something to do with it. Does anybody have any idea what this might be?!?!? most of my info is in my sig. Let me know if you need any more.

Ok hears what you do. tear off all the nissan and 240 logos. Then use some adhesive tape and stick on geo logos and slap the metro stickers on the side of the car.....kidding

How does the car ev when sitting at a stand still in park? if you romp it does it go up? do you have any engine codes or is the OD light flashing when you start the car?

yeah, it idles fine in neutral and no, there are no lights on. Actually... lately, I have been noticing my ebrake light coming on kinda randomly. And today when my car was messing up real bad, it was on the whole time. Kinda weird, but probably just coincidence.

But, would my clutch have gone that quickly, with no warning? I thought they started to go slowly. I don't really know much about 5speeds, but thats always been my understanding. Anyway, thanks for your help.

I have seen them go from just fine to complete failure [car wont move even at 6000 rpms] with no warning.

Is there any way that I could tell if it's my clutch before I go buy one? Like, if I were to take my clutch off, would it look worn out? If so, what does a worn out clutch look like?

Also, are there any other possibilities...like perhaps my brake is stuck? lol something easier than the clutch?!?

Unrelated to your clutch problem - about the ebrake light - check your brake fluid level - it may be low (or leaking).

You'll want to be able to stop again once your car starts going .

Good luck.

Yeah you can pull the trans out and look at the clutch disc. if it is down to rivits its worn out.
