Here is my history:
Car - 1989 Nissan 240sx Automatic
Did auto to manual conversion and swapped in a CA18DET.
I am currently running a JDM cluster (KM/H) and everything works great. Lately, I've been wanting to get it back to read MPH instead of KM/H. So I bought the KA24E cluster (115mph speedo) and swapped it in. The cluster worked but read at about 30mph when I was coasting in reverse so it wasn't reading correctly. Put in the cluster I've had since buying the car and it just didn't work at all. Both these clusters had between 160,000 and 250,000 miles on them.
My question:
All S13's used the same speed sensor in the manual transmission, so there is no reason why the KA24E speedo shouldn't work correct? I must just be getting testing bad gauge clusters that have bad speedometers? I have tried a KA24DE DOHC cluster that didn't work either. The only cluster I've ever had work is the JDM cluster. I'm thinking of biting the bullet and spending the $250 on an OEM speedometer but just thought I'd ask on the matter.
Thank you.
