alright, i'm working on a project to make plates to mount some component speakers in the door of my S13. i'm making them out of aluminum on a CNC mill and since it won't be any harder to make more i figured i'd have a bunch made and sell them. i just trying to get a feel for the demand right now so let me know if you are interested.

they will be made out of 1/4" aluminum plate so they will be light and strong. mine will be for 5.25" speakers, but i should be able to fit 6.5"s. they should work for with component speakers or normal round 2/3 way speakers. they will be direct bolt in using the original hardware, you won't have to cut or measure anything and it will all fit behind the factory grill.

what do you guys think?

I think it's a great idea - I remember someone was making these out of wood a while ago - I think it was the guys over at underground. Anyways, it would be nice to have some options as to speaker size, if you're making lots of these.

Just my 2c

It would probably do well, I hate those 4x6 speakers. Nissan was smoking crack when they put those in there.

aluminum would vibrate like hell, might wanna considering putting some kinda vibration dampener on those.

stick a layer of Dynamat on the backside before you attach it to the door and make sure the speakers are screwed down solid:jazz:

a 1/4" aluminum plate of that size will be so damn stiff it won't come close to vibrating. i even thought about going with 3/16" aluminum so it's lighter and easier to work with. i still can i guess.

the size of the holes in the back of the hatch would require some cutting to fit larger speakers. that's going beyond the bolt in setup i was going for. i just ran 4x6s back there in my setup, and to be honest, i should have just saved my money, i can't hear them at all. rear fill isn't as important as i thought.

Ack i just took the measurements and the speakers are about 9 1/2" x 7". i tried fitting into it into the door but only the magnet part of the speaker fit inside.

I took a few pics of it...(sorry about the low quality photobucket automatically resized them. = . )

i doubt it, i'll check though. what size are those, 6x9s? if you could pull the speaker out of the box and measure the opening that would be more helpful than the measurements you gave me. the depth is important too, if it's too deep, the window will hit the back of the speaker. or if you have the model number i could look up the specs myself.

i heard from the shop, the first one will cost me $40 for just one. after that i can get them a lot cheaper if i get a bunch done at once. but that means that i can't do individual custom ones for each speaker size. i don't know if 6.5" speakers are standard enough for this to work. i'll do some research and let you guys know.

Lucite is basically plexiglass. Yeah, that 4x6 is what was originally in the car, the new ones ares 6.5s and it's a 2 speaker setup w/ passive crossovers.

in case anybody was waiting for me to do this project, i don't think it's going to happen. i got a new job and don't have the time now. and they are going to be a lot more expensive than i thought so it's not worth it for me.
