Can anyone provide pics of where their amp power wires are routed from the battery through the firewall. And please describe how to get the wire through because its been two nights and I have no clue on how you guys do it.

No pix but here's what I did. Route to firewall, over to passenger side, drill hole below the hood latch hole, sand down and install good rubber gorment, insert wire, take out carpet and so on.

Thanks Silvia007... but I don't want to drill any holes if I don't have to. If it comes down to that then I'll do what I have to do, but so many people are talking about how they use the grommet on the passenger side and how there's so much space.

I want proof of this damn grommet's existence people!!! hehe Sorry for the outburst I'm just frustrated right now.

Just drill the hole. As long as it's more then 6in away from the edge of the firewall it will not compromise its strength/integrity

This is a S14, however I did it the same way on my S13. You may not be able to see the wiring in this photo since it is hidden in split loom and wrapped in e-tape. look right under the wiper motor and behind the cruise control actuator pump. Good luck!

That picture is just the thumb, whoops. The real image is in my gallery, but it still shows that there is indeed an electrical harnes with wires in it from the engine compartment to the passenger compartment on the passenger side of the vehicle, where the battery also is.

Thanks, but I found the mystery grommet. The coat hanger wasn't stiff enough, so I used a screwdriver to find it, and viola!

Good work! Was hoping you'd get it.

Is this gromet the one for the main ECM wiring harness?(I couldn't tell from the picture). Anyways, I used the one under the passenger-side fender well lining. I just zip-tied it up along side the existing harness(same place the washer fluid line runs from the resovour). I went through the existing gromet, and just re-taped real good.

I got an e-mail from Matt requesting a pic of the grommet, so here it is for everyone else to see. It's easier to remove the glove box first. I used a screwdriver to "push" my way through to the other side and then inserted a coat hanger with a loop to pull the wire through.

So is the firewall grommet behind the glovebox?

Yeah its' pretty much behind the glovebox. Once you take the glovebox out, you'll easily be able to see the grommet.

I'll try to take some better pics, but I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out once you get there. See that black plastic thing sticking into the rubber grommet, take a screwdriver and just follow along the side of it and push through being careful not to tear the rubber. That will create more space and a path for you to stick in the coat hanger and pull the power wire through.

Using a silicone spray to lubricate the power wire as you slide it though will help prevent chaffing and eliminate the chance of having the insulation wear through and a cause short. The grommet you showed in your picture is from the AC return line isn't it? I think it is, and this could have extreme temperatures which could effect current flow in the wire. For instance more heat increases resitance of the wire and decreases total amperes of capable draw. This can reduce power output, of a device like and amplifier. I would try to use the electrical harness that isn't really visible from the passenger compartment, but easily accessible from the engine compartment, in the future or if any one reading this old post has the hitch to try their own run of power wire.
